Those of you who are following the 10- step roadmap that I described for building the Indian Nation in semiconductors, packaging and systems, step 5 is about acquiring knowledge in these that India doesn't have.
As we all know, a country's strength is determined by its competitive knowledge. If India wants to be a semiconductor nation, as the Hon PM Modi and Hon Ministers Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Ashwini Vaishnav committed to, Indian academic and industrial communities must acquire the latest technical knowledge as quickly as possible.
The ISM academic R&D team that I'm leading in India developed a three-pong strategy. First is by means of online webinars by distinguished global experts. So far about 45 such webinars by academic and industry experts from the US relating to all 12 strategic technologies have taken place.
The second is related to faculty- industry collaborations leading to a large-scale India-wide R&D industry consortium. In this step, global industry experts are educating Indian faculty about the next gen technical challenges that need to be addressed by Indian faculty , leading to a set of proposed R&D projects at the top 13 IITs and IISc in 2024.
The third approach involves a semester -long professional development course, the same course taught by Prof Rao Tummala at Georgia Tech, on the most leading-edge semiconductor and packaging technologies by 21 US and Indian experts, using Prof. Rao Tummala's textbook--- Fundamentals of device and systems packaging( McGraw-Hill 2019). This course was offered online by BITS , Pilani and taken by 286 faculty, students and industry engineers, for the first time from September 23 to December 16, 2023. It was well received, and students felt they learned a lot particularly by asking questions during and after the live presentations by the 21 global experts. Alll participants received a certificate.
This course is the most comprehensive and leading-edge course . It will be offered again by BITS Pilani, starting on January 27, 2024. My thanks to the global expert tutors and BITs Pilani.
