MMR proudly partnered with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in May and June to provide free skin and oral cancer screenings to employees at its Baton Rouge, Broussard and Belle Chasse district offices. A total of 111 employees signed up for vital screenings across MMR’s Louisiana district offices. Employees with abnormal findings were referred to a specialty clinic and assisted by a Cancer Center nurse navigator to receive individual support and guidance. Participating employees received a complimentary t-shirt as well as valuable information about skin and oral cancer prevention.

Women who are at average risk for breast cancer should start mammogram screening at age 40 and get one every two years until age 74. That’s the latest updated recommendation from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), an independent, volunteer panel of national experts that makes recommendations focused on disease prevention. The change is not based on new scientific data but a review of existing studies on breast cancer screening programs, cancer cases, and deaths in the United States. Read here for what you need to know about the new mammogram guidelines. https://lnkd.in/eXSAeNMx #mammograms #breastcancerscreening #breastcancer

🎗️ Breast Cancer Awareness: Why Screening Matters 🎗️ As we continue to prioritize women's health, let's shine a light on the importance of breast cancer screening. Did you know that early detection through regular screening can significantly increase the chances of successful treatment? 🔍 Why Screening Matters: Early Detection Saves Lives: Mammograms and clinical breast exams can detect breast cancer in its early stages when treatment is most effective. Risk Awareness: Screening helps women understand their individual risk factors and empowers them to take proactive steps toward prevention and early intervention. Peace of Mind: Regular screenings provide peace of mind by offering reassurance or detecting abnormalities that may require further evaluation. Access to Resources: Screening opens doors to support networks, resources, and treatment options for those diagnosed with breast cancer. 🌸 What You Can Do: 🌸 Schedule Regular Screenings: Consult with your healthcare provider about when to begin and how often to schedule mammograms and clinical breast exams based on your age and risk factors. 🌸 Know Your Body: Be aware of any changes in your breasts, such as lumps, swelling, or nipple discharge, and promptly report them to your healthcare provider. 🌸 Encourage Others: Spread awareness about the importance of breast cancer screening within your community and encourage your loved ones to prioritize their health. 🌸 Stay Informed: Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in breast cancer screening and treatment options. Let's work together to ensure that every woman has access to the resources and support she needs for early detection and prevention. Proactive Early Detection: Schedule annual mammograms starting at age 40.

Thanks to News Nation and Nichole Berlie for having me on to highlight yesterday's USPSTF updated breast screening recommendations. This was an update from the previous 2016 guideline and had a couple highlights. 💡 they now recommend mammograms starting at 40 (instead of previous guideline of 50). This is more in line with American Cancer Society, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and American College of OB/GYN who all have previously recommended 40 as the starting age. 📌this guideline still recommends mammograms every 2 years, again this is in contrast to most other organizations including the 3 above recommending YEARLY mammograms. I disagree here and think mammograms should be yearly for early detection. This is our practice at Sarah Cannon Research Institute. 📍they also call out specific areas that need intervention. Namely that despite Black women not having higher rates of breast cancer, they are over 40% more likely to DIE of their breast cancer. Glad to see this specifically pointed out with a call to action to closing this health inequity. https://lnkd.in/d85csmgZ #bcsm #screening #mammograms

🎗 Exciting update for breast cancer screening 🎗 According to new guidance issued last month by the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force, women should get a mammogram every other year starting at age 40 (previous guidance was age 50). This change is estimated to save up to 20% more lives 💪 However, let's pause for a moment and consider this: Did you know that only 14% of all cancers in the U.S. are detected through reccomended screening tests? That means that 86% of cancers are caught at later stages when symptoms occur or pursuant to other medical care... While appreciating this progress, it's crucial to acknowledge that there's still much ground to cover in the fight against cancer. So, yes, let's celebrate this milestone, but let's also recognize it as a reminder of the ongoing battle against cancer. Let's continue advocating, supporting research, and empowering individuals with knowledge and resources. Because every life matters, and every step forward counts. #BreastCancerAwareness #EarlyDetection #Prenuvo #ProactiveHealthcare #WholeBodyMRI https://lnkd.in/gKmg5E8p

Join National Day of Action for Breast Cancer (From Susan G Komen Center for Public Policy) Today, advocates from across the country are coming together to call on federal lawmakers to help us bring an end to breast cancer. Susan G. Komen’s Advocacy Summit is taking place in person, in Washington, D.C., but we need your help to amplify our message so every member of Congress hears our voices. This year we are asking Congress to: Cosponsor the Access to Breast Cancer Diagnosis Act (H.R.3851/S.2464) which increases access to medically necessary diagnostic and supplemental breast imaging by eliminating out-of-pocket costs for patients. Pass the Safe Step Act (H.R.2630/S.652) to require employer health plans and Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) to offer an expedient and medically reasonable exception process for step therapy protocols to help ensure patients are able to access treatments safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner. Preserve access to critical breast and cervical cancer safety-net services by cosponsoring the Screening for Communities to Receive Early and Equitable Needed Services (SCREENS) for Cancer Act (H.R.3916/S.1840). Send the automated message to your Senators and Representative: https://lnkd.in/ghqhR26m
