Getting home safe is a basic right. Right? In 2023, 1,266 people were killed on Australian roads. A 7.3% increase from 2022. Last night, we were pleased to support AITPM - Leadership in Traffic and Transport by hosting the #NationalRoadSafetyWeek Technical Seminar in our GHD Sydney office. A couple of takeaways: 🚗 Historically, roads have been designed for motorists. This is transitioning to recognise roads and streets serve dual functions. 🛑 A call to action is more effective at changing motorist behaviour than crash or hazard warnings. 🛣 The way we design roads and the surrounding environment determines the way we interact - think... self-explaining roads. All in all, there's work to be done, but the capabilities are there. Step number 1.... Take the pledge to drive so others survive: #PowerofCommitment

Today kicks off Rural Road Safety Awareness Week! Did you know that 30 people lose their lives every day due to rural roadway departure crashes? Roadway departures occur when a vehicle strays out of its lane, which is why this year's theme is "Life Between the Lines." Alarmingly, 66% of crashes on rural roads occur simply because drivers don't stay between the lines. Throughout the week, we'll share materials from the National Center for Rural Road Safety highlighting the factors that influence roadway departures: speed, sharp curves, weather/road conditions, and driving behaviors. The more you know, the safer we all are. #RRSAW2024
