What a great movement by students. Being a First-Gen Student is scary, intimidating, and leaves a lot of room for uncertainty. Thoughts of "Am I doing this right?" or "Do I even belong here with these smart people?" echo daily throughout ones collegiate experience. I hope that state legislators and policy makers are not just moved by the stories of the student advocates...but are also moved to action because of the student advocates! #FirstGenProud #LearningForEveryone #AccessToHigherEducation #FirstGen #RemoveBarriers
Shout out to students from #FirstScholarsNetwork institutions Washburn University, Kansas State University, and the University of Kansas. Today, they'll host the inaugural State of Kansas F1rst-Generation College Student Advocacy Day! Led by students, for students, the goals include advocating for policies supporting #firstgen and driving actionable steps to enhance educational opportunities.

🥦 🥦 isn't just about consumption, it's about community and education. I had an enlightening conversation with Allison Benedict, founder of Pause Consumption. We delved into the importance of creating safe spaces for responsible use and reducing stigma through informed community building. From educational initiatives to social equity advocacy, this episode sheds light on how the industry is evolving for the better with the help of advocates like Allison. Link in bio.

A bit of a late post, but I have to shout out the 30+ folks who attended our Big Reveal Event at the Deaconess Center for Child Well-Being! In case you missed it - Transform 314 implemented a campaign from August - October 2023 to help shape our 2024 advocacy priorities. We obtained feedback through surveys and Community Conversations. While we were open to hearing from ALL St. Louisans, we were intentionally working to engage a group that historically is not engaged in collective advocacy efforts - Black St. Louisans under the age of 45. 66% of the 488 participants that completed the survey identified as Black, with a majority of participants identifying as being under the age of 45 The top 5 issues Black participants expressed they were willing to advocate for were: #5: Increasing input on how money is spent in your community #4: Improving street safety #3: Improving access to quality and affordable food #2: Improving access to healthy and affordable housing AND addressing vacancy #1: Improving streets, sidewalks, lighting, etc. So...what's next? In 2024, Transform 314 will be advocating for improving the infrastructure in the City of St. Louis. We will work on this effort monthly at our Community Meetups, with the first one on Wednesday, Jan. 10th at 6pm at High Low (3301 Washington Ave - 63103). ✨ What is the Children's Agenda? PART 1 ✨ The Children’s Agenda Coalition was founded in 2014, and began its advocacy for Oregon’s children during the 2015 legislative session. In this coalition, Our Children Oregon has brought together approximately 135 nonprofits and partner organizations to develop a comprehensive legislative agenda focused on improving the well-being of children, youth, and families in Oregon. The coalition meets once a month to collaborate and discuss ideas and updates. The Children’s Agenda steering committee is made up of partners who finalize the agenda and priorities are decided by the coalition as a whole. Partners, advocates, policy makers, and community members can use the Agenda’s shared framework to align their efforts, work collaboratively, and powerfully show up for Oregon’s youth.
