Aggregate, roughly half of it composed of white calcite marble, fits quite well into the landscape, but is not suitable for heavily trafficked roads. #calcitemarble #limestone #aggregates #macadam #makadam #kiviaines #Finland

Quarry Life Sharon Koehler Stone Industry Consultant We all deal with stone in one way or another: buying, selling, studying, fabricating, installing, advertising, restoring, shipping, admiring, hating, loving… whatever. The question is: “Do you ever wonder where it comes from?” Not like – “This Soapstone comes from Virginia,” or, “This marble comes from Vermont.” Do you ever wonder about the quarries? What they go through to get you product? Just how does the product get from the earth to your hands? Rock quarries actually have life cycles or stages: Read more about how old quarries are being reclaimed for people to enjoy here: https://lnkd.in/eB7eZNXp

The hardness of rocks and similar materials is commonly measured using the Mohs hardness scale, which ranks materials based on their ability to scratch one another. The Mohs scale ranges from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the hardest. Here's a brief overview of some materials and their respective hardness ratings on the Mohs scale: Talc – 1 (Softest) Gypsum – 2 Calcite – 3 Fluorite – 4 Apatite – 5 Orthoclase Feldspar – 6 Quartz – 7 Topaz – 8 Corundum – 9 Diamond – 10 (Hardest) For rocks and similar materials, their hardness depends on the minerals they are composed of. For example: Limestone (mostly composed of calcite) has a Mohs hardness of 3. Granite (composed of quartz, feldspar, and mica) has a hardness of about 6-7. Marble (primarily calcite) has a hardness of about 3-4. Sandstone (often composed of quartz grains) typically has a hardness of 6-7. This scale helps in determining the wear resistance of the material and how easily it can be scratched or polished. Advanced Construction Technology Services (ACTS)

This photo, taken yesterday, illustrates the strength with which Buddleja grows through masonry and brickwork. Buddleja, technically a shrub, has an impressive seed output (over 1 million seeds per plant), each seed is light enough to be carried by winds, which land in nooks and cracks of nearby structures and take hold even in the most unlikely places, high on chimney stacks, out of vertical walls, anywhere there’s gaps in concrete, stone or tarmac. Once you know this plant; you will see it everywhere! #buddleja #buddleia #invasiveplants #plants

Tool Guide: The Humble Feathers and Wedges These seemingly simple feather and wedge sets remain as significant today as they have been throughout history. The small but mighty tools play an important role in traditional dry stone walling and masonry. Feathers and wedges historically have been used extensively for quarrying rock out of hillsides. They can be employed to split down granite blocks to make throughstones and cheek end material. READ MORE HERE: https://lnkd.in/dkEdcujt

WHY CAN’T I USE CEMENT AS GROUT? When installing tiles, it is important that the correct products are used for the correct applications: ✔️ Proprietary grouts are formulated with plasticizing agents which enable the grout (and the tile panel) to absorb small movements such as thermal expansion and contraction. ❌ A sand/cement mix is very rigid and doesn’t allow for small movements, and this can result in a failure within the tile panel.
