How can the planetary boundaries framework be applied to businesses? Downscaling the global framework to the scale of a company and assess its whole value chain’s impact on all nine boundary processes is, to say the least, a complicated endeavor. Lack of specific and reliable data is still a problem. But even though it is difficult to come up with exact numbers, it is better to be ‘generally right’ than ‘precisely wrong,’ I argue in this piece from Suston Magazine: https://lnkd.in/gHzKJaKY

(Fredrik Moberg The link is not working) This is very exciting! I would love to help you try to apply it! And I agree - it is more useful to everyone involved if we stop trying to go after precise numbers - but focus on the inter-relationships along value chains, between companies, and between economic and natural systems.

Very interesting that you/Houdini applied the planetary boundaries in the sustainability report. Will have to check that out!

I fully agree! That is how I work towards my customers with Husstainability. To use the Nine Planetary Boundaries as framework will help companies to understand how nature works – and that the life supporting systems are the new KPI's 😎

I totally agree with the conclusion that it is better to be generally right than precisely wrong in this case. I would like to add that is it better to get started and learn from experience rather than wait for prefect data, methods and processes when doing new things. Reality is often the best teacher.

I really like this: “… it is better to be ‘generally right’ than ‘precisely wrong..” THIS is the way to go forward when dealing with #wickedproblems 💫
