Community Fibre Limited challenges BT, Virgin and the Broadband Industry to stick to the timelines to deliver seamless switching between providers and to stop misleading customers on technology by fibbing about fibre On Wednesday 13th December, The One Touch Switching Company (TOTSCo), the organisation sanctioned and supported by Ofcom and funded by BT, Virgin and Vodafone to deliver easy, joined up and seamless switching for customers between internet providers, announced that it still wasn’t ready to launch on 14th March 2024, nearly a year after delaying the previous launch deadline of 3rd April 2023. Community Fibre believes that the big players are desperate to avoid making it easy for customers to leave and join better, lower cost providers. We note that Virgin Media O2 are still under investigation by Ofcom for unfairly stopping customers leaving. Community Fibre has successfully tested the most recent TOTSCo customer switching specification with considerably less resource at its disposal than the likes of BT, and Virgin and can hit the 14th March date. Community Fibre believes that if the other parties were sufficiently motivated to make it, they could be ready too. Optus and Telstra have delayed their 3G network shutdown until October 28, 2024. 🚨 Telstra and Optus will switch off their 3G networks from 28 October 2024. TPG Telecom/Vodafone has already switched off its 3G network. The 3G closure had been scheduled for the end of this month, but will now be delayed to the end of October due to concerns about public safety. Having #55,591 retail #internet net subscriber activations, #Bell led the field and boasted of having achieved its "second best" Q4 result in over 20 years. Residential internet income increased by 5.4% as a result of net additions. #Federal regulations aimed at promoting #competition in the broadband market have affected the operator's ambitions for fibre growth. Don't put all eggs into one basket... ☝️ I just recently had to deal with me trying to put too many eggs into one basket. This time, it was with Telco providers. See, I switched my mobile communications (three mobile contracts, which is a story for another day) a while back to o2 Business (Telefónica Germany). And whilst I am mostly happy with the service, and whilst I am in fact very happy with the pricing, there are a few things I did not consider or knew: - In UK, I did only got 3G reception on all of my lines when I was there in December (don't know why, but it made me become a bit nervous). - When the network coverage is not that great, well, all of my lines are not available at the same time. - Outside Europe, o2 does not actually have an affordable (relatively speaking) offering, as opposed to T-Mobile. Having considered these, I just decided to put at least one egg out of the basked, and have signed up for a monthly cancellable Deutsche Telekom Mobile offering. It costs me a bit more than one of my o2 contracts while having only 1/3 of the data volume available, but it will give me the choice I need. 💪 Just thinking whether to switch my 3rd number to Vodafone... 🤔 #Mindset #Choice #Telcos

It appears that government is taking an increasingly detailed interest in the telecoms industry whether it is oversight of the proposed M&A activity, investigating Motorola's position with Airwave and the ESN project, or in this case looking into value for money from the Shared Rural Network. With an election coming if there is a change in government there will likely be a pause to review previously committed plans and strategies. #telcoms #5G #telecommunications
