As the financial year comes to a close, a lot of folks are being met with intense scrutiny (more-so than usual) as they present their latest tech initiatives to non-technical counterparts. Demonstrating a clear pathway to profitability is the the latest skill to have up the sleeve as a tech executive. From my recent discussions with CTO's I thought it would be helpful to share some common themes, tips and a checklist to make your business cases stand out: 1. Align initiatives with Business Objectives to showcase value beyond technology. 2. Simplify Technical Jargon to emphasize business benefits. 3. Highlight the Value Proposition with concrete metrics on revenue, cost reduction, or customer satisfaction. 4. Address the Cost Narrative transparently and focus on long-term value. 5. Showcase Success Metrics for accountability and commitment. 6. Present a Risk Mitigation Plan to build confidence in viability. 7. Include a Roadmap for clear implementation timelines and milestones. 8. Engage Stakeholders Early for buy-in and proactive issue resolution. 9. Leverage Past Successes through case studies for credibility. 10. Be Prepared for Tough Questions with data-backed answers. Remember, the key is to craft a narrative that connects technology with business value.
