Here is a simple matrix to help your team make better and faster decisions: Low stakes, low urgency ↳ Decide without me Low stakes, high urgency ↳ Inform on progress High stakes, low urgency ↳ Propose for approval High stakes, high urgency ↳ Escalate immediately Don't be part of the 80%, use this matrix to make better decisions at work!

Ask Smarter Strategic Questions "With organizations facing increased urgency and unpredictability, being able to ask smart questions has become a key leadership skill—especially when setting strategy. Here are five types of questions to ask that can boost strategic decision-making. 1. Investigative: What’s Known? When facing a problem or opportunity, the best decision-makers start by clarifying their purpose, asking themselves what they want to achieve and what they need to learn to do so. 2. Speculative: What If? These questions help you consider the situation at hand more broadly, reframing the problem and exploring outside-the-box solutions. 3. Productive: Now What? Assessing the availability of talent, capabilities, time, and other resources ultimately helps you determine a course of action. 4. Interpretive: So, What? This natural follow-up can push you to continually redefine the core issue—to go beneath the surface and draw out the implications of an observation or idea. 5. Subjective: What’s Unsaid? This final question deals with the personal reservations, frustrations, tensions, and hidden agendas that can push decision-making off course." For too many organizations, strategic planning is an event, not a process. The meeting ends with leaders strongly aligned and feeling good about the goals they have set. The “what to do” makes sense but the “how to do it” is missing and often doesn’t get done. Eventually, disappointment sets in and “dusty slide decks” get referenced. We don’t do that. Bellrock runs strategic planning as a process – a regular rhythm with dedicated space and time to analyze performance, examine market trends, solve important problems, and plan for the future. This results in action – consistent communication of the organization’s vision, priorities, and allocation of resources (e.g., human, equipment, financial, etc.) – that guides everyone. Humanizing Strategy | Helping social profit leaders navigate change through participatory planning that aligns their team, improves morale, and helps everyone buy in to the goals of the organization.
I am thrilled to facilitate this workshop as part of my ongoing efforts to increase capacity within organizations. What happens after you've created a plan? For me, it's never about the plan, 😅 it is about the process and it is about creating a mindset of strategic thinking. ➡️ I firmly believe in the power and necessity of the participatory strategic planning process. I also recognize the importance of crafting an action plan or operational plan following a strategic plan, however, my concern lies in the frequency with which organizations undertake this process. ➡️ Typically done every few years, it often misses the continuous aspect that true organizational development embodies. Organizational development is about creating and nurturing systemic capacity—ensuring that organizations don't just plan for the future in sporadic bursts, but continuously evolve and adapt to changing circumstances. ➡️ This approach allows for the cultivation of a resilient and dynamic environment where strategic thinking and operational excellence become part of the everyday culture, not just a periodic project. ➡️ My goal with this workshop is to shift the mindset from seeing strategic planning as a discrete event to understanding organizational development as an ongoing journey. This journey empowers every member of the organization to contribute to its success, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and strategic agility. #strategicplan #strategy #facilitation #facilitate #OrganizationalDevelopment #culture
Congratulations, you've completed a long participatory planning process that involved folks from across the organization, and created a beautifully mapped out plan! You now face a new challenge: descending into the valley of everyday operations without losing the momentum or the panoramic view you've gained. ✨ The collaborative effort you engaged in has set a solid foundation, the next phase of your journey is about transforming your strategic blueprint into systemic capacity that enhances both effectiveness and vitality. ✨ This isn't just about ticking boxes or following a plan to the letter. It's about embedding a culture of strategic thinking and continuous improvement, grounded in organizational and social sciences, that permeates every level of your organization. ✨ The goal? To ensure that every team member not only understands the strategic vision but sees their own role in bringing it to life. It's about moving from the "what" and the "why" to the "how"—transforming lofty goals into tangible actions that propel your organization forward. In essence, the path forward requires us to build on the foundation laid by our participatory process, ensuring that strategic thinking and capacity building are not confined to the upper echelons of leadership but are integral to the ethos of our entire organization. This collective effort is what will propel us toward achieving our mission and making a lasting impact. #OrganizationalDevelopment #capacity #strategicplan #strategy
