A new documentary about a New Jersey woman’s fight for disability rights premieres this month on Hulu. Patrice Jetter wants to marry and live with partner Gary Wickham, who also has a disability. As the couple finds out, two people receiving Medicaid or Social Security disability benefits lose their financial support if they get married or live together. This film follows the couple through their fight to have their love and right to marry be recognized. A new study is detailing benchmarks specific to those with the Down syndrome. Between March 2018 and March 2023, researchers looked at 842 children and young adults with Down syndrome who visited the Boston Children’s Hospital Down Syndrome Program to evaluate how they tracked developmentally. Published online in the journal Pediatrics, the findings show prominent differences when compared to their typically developing peers.
