The NIS2 directive is about to take effect in Italy as well, and I have to say... Sometimes, I find cybersecurity downright peculiar. Everyone is buzzing about this directive. I keep hearing and reading statements like: "Finally! Companies will no longer be sitting ducks!" "NIS2 will change the game. Just wait until the fines start pouring in!" "The clock is ticking. Soon, companies will regret not taking cybersecurity seriously!" But would we really celebrate a law that punishes people for forgetting to lock their doors after burglars made off with their valuables? I don’t think so! What’s the difference with cyberspace? Our digital assets are more like cars. If you leave the keys in the ignition and a child hops in and causes an accident, you’re held responsible. If you leave your systems exposed, they can be misused to harm others. And that’s even more serious when you're holding someone else’s data!
