Shippers: When you get a call from a random broker who immediately goes into sales pitch talking about how they have capacity and the cheapest rates...and ask if you have any lanes they can quote...Do you give them fake lanes? I think most would agree, response times and communication are key for good brokers. But what about internally? How long does it take to setup a carrier? What if you need help after hours? Need more credit on a weekend? Other than pay, and KPIs the third issue I hear most commonly from reps wanting to leave their company is response times, and ability to service their customers. This was on the top my mind this weekend as we had 2 agents needing more credit for customers over Labor Day weekend. Response time was under 15 min and it was done. The reality is at many brokerages those requests wouldn’t have been able to be looked at until Tuesday morning since the people making those decisions are mf 8-5 people. A good agent program treats their sellers like how good brokers treat their shippers. Fast and good communication, if you aren’t able to get that at your current role, might not be a bad idea to look elsewhere! Happy Tuesday. #sales #logistics #trucking #communication

I dont really post that much of my own stuff on here. Im highly anxious and scared of judgement/sounding dumb. But sales is hard and I thought to heck with it. My name is Holley. I am a freight broker. Not scared to say it. Been at it for a couple of years now on and off. (yay no more non competes!) I am not the best. But I try MY best every day. I am OCD and care a lot about my customers. I learn new stuff daily. I run dry vans and box trucks. Love heavy stuff. Some would say I am too honest with my customers, but I believe thats the only way to do business. Sometimes I overshare. But they know I will do everything in my power to get their shipments handled and they never have to wonder what is going on because I have already told them. Its the trust for me. Want to know how to keep a customer? Don't make them leave? I know...you would never MAKE your customer leave, right? Well, if you can't offer them all of the services they need to keep their supply chain moving, someone else can. You should be able to offer LTL, Dray, Expedited, International, and Intermodal options along with Truckload. Can you do that? If you are a freight Agent - look for a broker that is able to handle these things for you OR if you are a small broker and don't have access to these services for your customer - consider an agency agreement with a broker for the modes your brokerage can't serve right now. It's all about serving all of your customer's needs.
