As someone working in the US power market while closely following the European (and Spanish) markets, I admire how both California and the US have laid the groundwork for energy storage deployment. Industry stakeholders have been willing to develop and deploy storage projects, fully accepting the teething problems that come with a new industry. In Europe, however, BESS deployment is still far behind, often hindered by regulatory and administrative barriers, as well as risk aversion among stakeholders. I’m certain that embracing challenges and learning from them is not only part of the game, but the only way to achieve innovation and leadership. We all know energy storage is essential to increase the penetration of renewables in the energy mix, and California didn’t hesitate to tackle the energy pricing issue head-on. #EnergyStorage #California #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #EnergyTransition #BESS

Energy storage has had a transformative impact in #Texas over the past year. A significant 5GW of #energystorage capacity additions enhanced grid reliability during extreme weather events, avoided conservation appeals, and contributed to $750 million in cost reductions. “As storage developers and operators, we are dedicated to ensuring that Texas residents and businesses have reliable electricity," said Eric De Caluwé, Managing Director of ENGIE’s Flexible Generation for North America. 🚨 The UK Government Unveils Plan to Accelerate Grid Connections for Clean Energy Transition by 2030 🚨 With 722GW of pending grid requests causing delays in clean energy projects, the plan shifts from a ‘first come, first served’ to a ‘first ready, first connected’ policy, prioritizing projects based on readiness. In partnership with the National Energy System Operator, the government will also implement criteria to prioritize connections by technology and location, supporting a balanced energy mix. 🔋 Exciting news for Rhode Island's clean energy future! On June 26, Governor Daniel McKee signed the 2024 Energy Storage Systems Act into law, marking a pivotal step towards a 100% clean energy goal. Championed by State Senator Dawn Euer, Esq. and State Representative Arthur Handy, this Act aims to revolutionize the state's energy landscape. "Energy storage is flexible, reliable, and affordable—a game changer for Rhode Island’s power grid," said Kat Burnham, Rhode Island State Lead at Advanced Energy United. Key features of the Act include: - Storge Targets: 90 MW by 2026, 195 MW by 2028, and 600 MW by 2033. - Infrastructure Programs: Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank will promote energy storage adoption. - Storage Procurements: The Rhode Island Public Utility Commission can mandate cost-effective storage system procurements.
