Welcome to our new weekly series for Women+ of Color called "Take Action Thursday"! Sometimes our money can be overwhelming, so we want to give you manageable action items each week to help you build and protect your wealth. To kick off our series, we want to encourage you to use the power in your money. If you're not already, consider automatic contributions to charities, non-profits, initiatives or organizations that align with what's important to you. What are some of your favorite charities?

'Tis the non-profit season for the onslaught of fundraising appeals. Before making a donation, consider doing due diligence by researching the organization's 990 (tax return). The FY23 990s are just starting to get posted on Guidestar and you'll want to make sure that you understand the organization's financial strength and/or risk...and if you feel they are sustainable to warrant your donation. Another excellent resource is Charity Navigator which ranks and scores organizations based on their financials and accountability. Charity Navigator will also issue a caution message for orgs who have low scores and who are delinquent in key areas. #guidestar #charitynavigator

Near to 10,000 people in our community (9946, to be precise) have taken a pledge to donate a portion of their income to effective charities. That includes: 🔸 the 10% Pledge, 🔹 the Trial Pledge, and the Further Pledge. Emma took a 6-month trial pledge last year, and we're so pleased that it gave her the confidence to commit to giving 10% of her income until she retires! We recently updated our webpage about the Trial Pledge – you can learn more about how this flexible option can give you the evidence that donating effectively, consistently, and generously is not only plausible but incredibly rewarding.
