Yesterday I reached one of my goals: completing an half marathon below 2 hours. I finished the Venice Half Marathon 2024 in 1h59’26”. One of the biggest achievements of my life: maybe easy for most of you, but for me is the clear example of how I have changed in the last years. From being a lazy smoker to a “runner”. Step by step.

🏃♂️ What do you learn when training for the Athens Classic Marathon? 1️⃣ Patience & Perseverance: The journey is not just kilometers; it’s a path of endurance. 2️⃣ Discipline: Each training session is a small step toward self-improvement. 3️⃣ Team Spirit: Runners, friends, and spectators become part of the effort. 💡 I’m seriously considering preparing to run next year. Because every marathon is a metaphor for life: filled with goals, challenges, and the indescribable finish line! 🏅 #MarathonTraining #AthensMarathon #LifeLessons

First half of your route is done by your legs, second half by your head. Same principle applies for any other activity. Thousands of people supporting around the track, excitation on start, beautyful city, etc. So many inputs to move you forward. This is the oldest marathon in Europe. Excellent experience. Great organisation. But at the end, your own legs and your own head lead you to final destination. This race is over, for majority in destination. For some ended sooner, but will try next year stronger. Some of our races are still running ! Dont forgett. If you continue by your head (not legs anymore), you are closer to destination than to start.

It is crucial to provide the right support for our teams. We are aware that projects can be unpredictable, challenging and turbulent .... but the way we treat our team members will have a lasting impact on them and their careers. As Project Managers or Managers in general, our role is not just to receive recognition, but to lead, communicate, support and back our teams during challenging times. Without the team and their contributions, our positions would not exist today. FACT It is essential to show support for your staff and advocate for them 💯% #rail #railindustry #projectmanagement #signalling #railway #prince2 #conventionalsignalling #signallingprojects #rail #railforum #railway

At the World Championships in Budapest in June, USA’s Anita Alvarez sank to the bottom of the pool. Looking across the deck, then noticing she was under way too long, her coach, Andrea Fuentes immediately dove in after her fully clothed, pulling her to safety. Anita was unconscious and didn’t have the capacity to kick, paddle, or help herself in any way. If Andrea had not have noticed, she would have drown. But she knew Anita. She looked for her, quickly noticed she was under too long, (nore than normal) then dove in without thinking twice. This has resonated with me…. When you are under too long, who are the people that will look for you, notice you aren't surfacing, and dive in to pull you to the surface when you lose your strength to swim in life? Who are the people that would do that for you? And can someone count on you to be that person that would go looking and notice when they are under too long, diving in to support them when they are all out of fight and fuel to swim in these turbulent waters we call life. -Written by Jakkia Ambler Hollingsworth

The Stockholm syndrome like relationship between Norwegian oil companies and winter sports is painful to watch. It’s one thing to accept sponsor money from the very industry that is destroying winter sports (and life on earth). But to watch how representatives from the skiing community have to embrace those sponsorships in the media and at events like this is just sad. Vår Energi is Norway’s second largest fossil fuel exporter (after Equinor) with a massive growth strategy. Vår Energi is one of the world’s fastest growing E&Ps (exploration and production) compnaies. In just two years, by end 2025, production output will almost double from 2023 levels to around 400 thousand barrels of oil equivalents per day. Vår Energi signed a sponsorship deal with the Norwegian National Alpine Ski teams in 2023. In the press release sports director at the Norwegian Ski Federation, Claus Ryste said: «We are delighted to welcome Vår Energi as a key partner to our Alpine ski teams. Their dedication to collaboration and fostering an environment where individuals thrive within a team perfectly aligns with our own values. Together, I am sure we will achieve inspiring and remarkable results.» These kind of press releases often emphasizes the «mutual values» between the oil companies and their sponsees. I find it very hard to understand what shared values a winter sports team have with a fossil fuel company.
High performers! 💪 What does Vår Energi have in common with Norges Skiforbund Alpint (the Norwegian Alpine skiing team)? Quite a lot it turned out when we had the pleasure of having Sport Science Director, Robert Reid, on a visit recently. We both 👉 have high ambitions 👉 strive for continuous improvement 👉 know that key to success is the combination of hard work, culture and knowledge Our collaboration with the Norwegian Alpine skiing team is bearing fruit indeed. So much to share, so much to learn - together, but in each of our domains, we are pushing boundaries and setting new standards in the pursuit of excellence and high performance! #energy #oilandgas #sponsor 📸 Vår Energi

Last weekend's marathon didn't go to plan. I came up short of a personal best by 4 minutes, crossing the line in 2:44 after a race in which I only got slower with each km that passed. I won't lie... after 20 weeks of training I was frustrated. I'd put the effort in, been out to Spain for a cancelled race and then adjusted my plans to take on 11 laps of what was sold as a flat and fast race. But, it turned out the race was 5x hiller than the London Marathon and that we were in for a whole day of rain and wind. Sometimes this happens in sport... the plan doesn't go the way you want it to and the only decision that matters is how you respond. But, this time I didn't want to rush. (I'd booked the last mara 24 hours after London). So instead, I asked myself the big questions: How important is a marathon time to me? Will I regret not going after 2:30?What other endurance sports do I want to achieve my potential in? And I realised it's time for a new challenge in 2025. One that shifts my focus away from needing a certain time to be happy onto counting crossing the finish line as a win worth celebrating instead. So, what's next? I've locked in a 100k ultra trail race in May 2025. Because if I can’t outrun the hills, I might as well embrace them, right? Here’s to the next challenge ✌🏼

My greatest achievement as a runner. I will be representing England in the Masters International 10 km race next summer! I never thought I would ever run for Hungary, let alone for England, but here I am, wearing the official England kit. Over the last few years, I’ve set some tough, sometimes unrealistic goals, but as I was achieving them, I kept raising the bar. My motto has been: “If you get to the top of the mountain: find a bigger mountain!” These targets included breaking 20 minutes on the 5km before I turned 40, qualifying for a Championship place for London Marathon, and the most unrealistic one was to qualify for the England Masters on the 10km, which is my weakest distance by far. Once I set a target, I work very hard towards that goal. It’s still difficult to settle the nerves in the days leading up to the race. I often question myself if I have done enough, if I’m ready and if I’m stupid to even think I could do it. When I arrive to the start line, I’m still nervous, but when the gun goes off, I’m relying on the work I have put in over the previous months for about 70% of the race, but when the mental race starts, I have to convince my legs that they can do it. The key to success in running is not only the physical preparation, but a huge part of it is mental strength. It’s important to have the ability to dig deep, go through pain and darkness, and be able to push on when the legs are willing to stop or to slow down. After 8km on my 10km qualifying race I was no longer on target to finish in the required time due to a tough hill. I was knackered, but I knew how much I wanted it. Thanks to my mind, I ran my 5km pace on the 9th km and I still don’t know how, but I completed the last km faster than I ever ran a single km before. My new target now is to beat my qualifying time on the international race. 😊
