#Counterbores In Engineering Drawings Holemaking is a very diverse machining operation with several kinds of hole geometries. Owing to the variety of holes in engineering design, a counterbored hole is generally indicated on a drawing using a counterbore callout. An example of this is shown in the figure below. The technical drawing shows a 13.5-diameter drill hole with a counterbore. This drill hole will serve as the pilot hole for the counterbore operation. The counterbore callout indicates the size of the counterbore as 23.79 and its depth as 7.5.#Wayken

What makes #pigging a small-diameter pipeline so difficult? Pigging small-diameter pipelines presents unique challenges due to their limited space and intricate geometry. Traditionally, advancements in Inline Inspection (ILI) tools have not been readily applicable to smaller pipelines. As a result, many of these pipelines have been deemed “unpiggable” and have never undergone ILI assessments. Let’s delve into the reasons behind this difficulty: Space Constraints and Geometry: Small-diameter pipelines lack the room necessary for accommodating standard ILI tools. Their compact dimensions make it challenging. Bends and tight spaces within these pipelines hinder the passage of traditional ILI tools. Design Considerations: Most small-diameter pipelines were designed and constructed without consideration for ILI tool passage. As a result, they lack features that facilitate inspection. These pipelines may have fittings (such as elbows, bends, and tees) installed, which further obstruct ILI tool movement. Pipeline Features Contributing to “Unpiggability”: Short Radius Elbows: These sharp bends limit the ability of ILI tools to navigate smoothly. Mitred Bends: Complex bends with varying angles pose challenges for tool passage. Heavy Wall Tees: Thick-walled tees create obstacles within the pipeline. Bore Restrictions: Narrow sections restrict the movement of ILI tools. Back-to-Back Bends: Sequential bends close together hinder tool progression. Unbarred Tees, Y Connections, Off-Takes, Laterals, and Deadlegs: These features disrupt ILI tool movement. Vertical Pipe Segments: Vertical sections require specialized tools for inspection. Thick or Thin Pipe Walls: Variations in wall thickness affect tool compatibility. Lack of Launcher/Receiver Facilities: Absence of proper entry and exit points for ILI tools. Accessibility Challenges: Some pipelines are located in remote or difficult-to-reach areas, making inspection logistics complex. Addressing these challenges requires innovative solutions tailored specifically for small-diameter pipelines. To figure a rolling offset using 45-degree bent fittings: ✔ Step 1: Determine the horizontal and vertical offsets of your pipeline. ✔Step 2: Take the square root of the sum of the horizontal and vertical offsets' squares.
