It's pretty amazing how much value we can create along our urban waterways, but a lot of thought should go into what goes where. How do we make use of our space allocation both horizontally and vertically? What are we ok with getting wet by high flows, and how often? How can we bring people down to the water with great access and features, but in a way that those features can withstand high flows with zero maintenance? Can we configure the stream to provide great habitat? It's possible to achieve all of this value but it necessitates diverse design teams, thoughtful visioning, and of course, bringing that vision to life with great contractors! Interesting note - the flows seen in this video are perhaps a 1-yr event. https://lnkd.in/gEenRqqz Still not sure how I feel about this project... other than the obvious magnitude and that it is is sure to have a bunch of interesting engineering and construction involved. But without seeing that design and just the issues that will arise from the shear magnitude, consumption of resources, and environmental concerns that will surely arise and will need to be overcome or accepted.

I strongly recommend introducing this type of miniature construction project in all civil engineering undergraduate courses. It should help students understand how real world infrastructures are working and sustained. In addition, instructor can teach students who may be interested in demolition technology how to dismantle these student's works efficiently.
