Procon Employee Spotlight: Senior Project Manager, Joseph Earhart Joe recently celebrated his two year work anniversary at Procon and oversees projects for Architect of the Capitol (AOC). He found his way into Construction Management by following his heart... What did you study in school? How did you end up working in Construction Management? I started out as a chemical engineer at University of Delaware and ended up transferring to mechanical engineering with a minor in biomedical engineering.   All signs pointed to a career in process/industrial engineering but I ended up taking a job at the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company because it was the closest job opportunity to my college girlfriend (now wife), who was living in Vienna, VA. I knew I wanted to marry her, so I moved down to the DC area and took the only job offer I had there, which was in construction. While I didn't envision myself in construction as a college student, I have enjoyed every step of my journey into construction management, especially working on construction projects for the Federal Government. What is the best part of working on AOC projects? My dad had a career serving the US Air Force for 30 years and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. I always wanted to be like him and support the Federal Government in some way. I like knowing that the projects I am involved in directly serve the US Government. Architect of the Capitol is a great agency to work with because their projects are so varied. For example, I'm currently supporting two projects for the US Botanic Garden - one designing greenhouses and another supporting an off-site office and data center facility. Another project with Pepco involves the installation of underground electrical feeders throughout Capitol Hill. I've also been involved in projects at the US Capitol Police HQ, and various House/Senate Office Buildings. I really enjoy the different types of construction that I am exposed to and have the opportunity to learn from. When you're not working, what is your favorite thing to do in the DMV area? I live in Fairfax, VA with my wife and two young kids (5-year-old and 2.5-year-old) so weekends are usually a mix of seeing family and neighbors, trying to get the kids to local outdoor destinations like Great Falls Park, or indoor playgrounds. I'm a homebody and enjoy relaxing with the family at our house or in the backyard. We do a lot of home renovation projects ourselves. Most of my hobbies center on being at home as well -- I've been getting into carpentry/woodworking (I am still a novice), I play guitar, lift weights, and like working on art projects. #ConstructionManagement #ProjectManager #BuiltforWhatsNext #PeopleofProcon
