Longevity and quality of design are often undervalued when considering sustainability criteria for a project, but as Tim Clark argues in this excellent Property Week article they should be a central consideration. If the most sustainable building is the one that is already built, let’s make sure that where we have to build, we do so flexible and beautiful.
How many people clock into a 50-year-old office as their workspace? How about a 100 year's old? Or, imagine 600? Not many, unless you work in the Tower of London. However according to Luke Askwith at architecture firm Gensler developers could benefit from thinking ultra-long term, with a few design tweaks. Latest piece this week for Property Week is on the role of designing for a longer lifespan. Thanks also to Chris Radley, Tyler Goodwin and Sascha Lewin for adding to the debate. https://lnkd.in/e9w_yX3h

Last month, Helvar w Polsce - HC Center Sp. z o.o. Sp.j. organized the 7th edition of Zaprojektuj Niewidzialne (EN: Design the Invisible) event in collaboration with 4Nature System. 🙌 This series aims to gather architects and designers who prioritize the #sustainability of buildings and the well-being of their users. We discuss how seemingly invisible aspects of office design, like #LightingDesign, become noticeable very quickly, especially when they are designed incorrectly, or worse, not included in the design at all. 💡 Big thanks to our great Helvar representatives who attended: Dariusz Prekurat, Katarzyna Siuchnińska, Mariusz Wrzodak, Przemysław Skorupa, Agata Nowak, and our esteemed speaker Damian Tomasiak, who discussed #HelvarSenses! 👏 📣 The 8th edition is coming soon to Katowice, Poland! In collaboration with Growth WPD and Milliken Floors ANZ, the goal was to create an inspiring workspace for Ingenia that aligned with their growth-focused vision. The design philosophy aimed to merge the Ingenia brand with its work-force, fostering engagement and collabo-ration. The design team specified #CircularRelationship's in the ‘Dunes’ pattern, in ‘Golden Bay’ and ‘Blue Horizon’ colourways to evoke coastal waves and sand dunes, infusing the workspace with an outdoor ambience. See here the clever use of #MajorFrequencyOne in ‘Vibration’ design, ‘Tremor’ colourway as it provides a soft grey backdrop for collaboration zones, aligning with the coastal theme. The Performance-Based Façade Design conference in Venice concluded with resounding success, leaving Staticus' team inspired. 💡 As Aulikki Sonntag, our Chief Business Development Officer, said, "The event is serving as a platform for exploring how façades can be transformed from mere aesthetic elements into strategic contributors to sustainable and resilient building design." The initiative's emphasis on performance-based design resonated deeply with our team. Valentino Basile, our Sales Manager, noted, "The workshops on sustainability offered invaluable insights that align perfectly with the growing demand for sustainable building solutions in the construction market, where Staticus is poised to become a leading provider of innovative façade systems." From Aulikki's thought-provoking presentation about how façade design has always reflected the environmental, technological, and cultural trends of its time and how each generation of façade specialists challenges environmental conditions for new networking opportunities, the event provided a comprehensive view of the future of building envelopes. The opportunity to discuss it with industry leaders and develop new collaborations improved the experience. As Staticus is committed to sustainability, we are excited to apply the knowledge gained from this initiative to our ongoing projects and contribute to the development of more resilient buildings. A special thanks to the organiser, Angela Mejorin for curating such a compelling event. #performancebasedfacades #sustainability #futureofbuildings

Designing for Well-being: The Human-Centric Approach to Lighting As architects, we have the profound ability to influence how people feel in their spaces. Our ultimate goal? To create environments that not only look good but also feel good. Here’s how we’re achieving this: ▶ Wellness at the Core: We’re designing with a focus on emotional and physical well-being, ensuring our spaces cater to the human experience first and foremost. ▶ Lighting as a Lifeline: Smart lighting goes beyond aesthetics; it’s about creating a harmony between environment and inhabitant. ▶ Sustainable Harmony: By integrating automated, energy-efficient lighting, we’re not just cutting costs—we’re aligning our designs with the rhythms of nature. ▶ Balanced Illumination: We aim for the perfect equilibrium where functionality meets wellness, crafting lighting that supports productivity while fostering emotional connections to our spaces. At a recent gathering with LC-AV LTD London, these principles were brought to light, pun intended, showcasing the intersection of intelligent lighting and wellness. Thank you to Abby Fox for the demonstration of the sustainable smart lighting system and to Craig Turner for giving us a hand's on taster of Orluna circular approach to lighting design - their lights come with a 20-year repair and reuse guarantee which is unheard of in the lighting industry. #HumanCentricDesign #Wellness #IntelligentLighting #ArchitecturalDesign #BalancedDesign #LC_AVLondon #RISEDesignStudio
