My Top 3 Insights from the 2023 Swedish E-commerce Report. As we navigate through the evolving landscape of e-commerce, the 2023 Swedish E-commerce Report offers some compelling insights. Here are my top three takeaways and what they could mean for Swedish e-commerce brands: 1. Explosive Growth in Travel E-commerce Insight: The travel sector has seen nearly a 40% increase in e-commerce transactions. Implication: This surge indicates a strong rebound and growing consumer confidence in online bookings. E-retailers in travel and associated sectors (like leisure and outdoor equipment) should optimize their online platforms to capture this renewed interest. 2. Dominance of Local Payment Methods Insight: Swish and other local payment solutions continue to gain ground, reflecting a strong preference for familiar, trusted payment methods. Implication: For e-retailers, integrating these preferred local payment options can enhance customer trust and streamline the checkout process, potentially increasing conversion rates. 3. The Revival of Physical Stores Insight: Despite the growth of e-commerce, there's a noticeable shift back to physical retail. Implication: This trend suggests an opportunity for a hybrid model that blends online convenience with the tangible benefits of in-store shopping. Retailers should consider strategies like click-and-collect, showrooming, and experiential retail to bridge the online-offline divide. What's Next for Swedish E-commerce? These insights highlight current trends as well as give an idea of the future landscape of retail in Sweden. Integrating these insights will be crucial for your e-commerce brand. We need to do everything to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing market. What trends are you noticing in your sector? Let's discuss how these shifts are reshaping the retail industry!

Most CPG brands miss these 5 opportunities with their e-commerce packaging Too many brands still use one-size-fits-all product packaging that is optimized for retail shelves In retail, packaging is "big and bold" to capture shoppers' attention But here's why that is short-sighted: While e-commerce still makes up just 15.4% of total sales... It is where most of the growth is taking place Consider: In 2023: → E-commerce sales grew +7.6% YoY → Retail sales increased just +2.1% YoY (𝙐𝙎 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙨 𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙖) This means that for challenger brands, most of the disruptive growth is happening in e-commerce So, why not create an e-commerce version of your product packaging to optimize for this growth? Most brands simply don't know where to start (or how e-comm packaging should differ from retail packaging) Here's what to consider when designing e-commerce packaging: 1. More 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁. 𝙍𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙩𝙮 "𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮" 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚 - Reduce warehouse storage costs per unit - Reduce inbound shipping costs - Reduce marketplace fulfillment fees (Amazon, Walmart, etc.) charged by package dimensions - Highlight efficient packaging benefits to customers (e.g. Amazon's Compact by Design badge) 2. More 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝘆. 𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 (𝙚.𝙜. 𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙪𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙚) - Package condition on delivery impacts the first impression a customer has of the product's quality -- optimize to survive shipping - Become eligible for cost-saving programs such as Ships in Product Packaging (SIPP) 3. More 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁. 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙧 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙗𝙤𝙭 - Most customers prefer to keep purchases discreet from neighbors or even household members (think gift purchases) 4. More 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲. 𝙀𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙨, 𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙨 - Reduced packaging print costs - Fungible packaging that can be used across product variations - More likely to be recyclable in more communities 5. 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲. 𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙚-𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙨𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙨 - E-commerce customers tend to value convenience and multipacks - Sub-$10 items purchased in retail rarely make sense for e-commerce fulfillment. Target appropriate multipack sizes for optimal use-rates and fulfillment margin _____ 👉 Need help optimizing your product packaging for e-commerce?
