Cordelia Lines' Lack of Empathy Leaves Exporter High and Dry in Flood Devastation On behalf of our client Karthik Enterprises, a valued shipper, we find ourselves writing a public appeal due to Cordelia Container Shipping Lines' disappointing response to our recent ordeal. Unprecedented floods in Tuticorin threw our exporters Saptarangi Root shipment (40’ reefer container SZLU917503_9) into chaos, leaving us with two impossible choices: delay delivery due to unforeseen technical issues or face crippling logistical breakdown due to the devastation surrounding us. Reaching the -15°C temperature needed for our cargo proved impossible amidst the power outages and infrastructure collapse. Yet, with communication lines down and roads impassable, Cordelia Lines offered no understanding, only swift action to penalize us. Despite our desperate pleas to M/s Eminent Shipping and their Regional Office for a compassionate waiver of detention charges, we were met with silence, followed by a staggering Rs 6.8 lakh bill – more than four times the freight cost! This opportunistic exploitation during a natural disaster has left us, and the exporter, feeling utterly abandoned. Cordelia Lines' complete lack of empathy, not just towards our financial hardship but also our struggle amidst a humanitarian crisis, is deeply disheartening. We urge Cordelia Lines to reconsider their stance and offer some succor to Karthik Enterprises in these trying times. A company's true character is revealed not just in smooth sailing but during turbulent storms. We hope Cordelia Lines chooses to show genuine concern for its partners, not just their bottom line. To the wider shipping community, we share our experience as a cautionary tale. While unforeseen circumstances can disrupt even the best-laid plans, a true partner offers support and solutions, not opportunistic profiteering. We call upon Cordelia Lines to step up and act with the empathy and humanity their customers deserve. Cordelia Container Shipping Line

The ARTC rail corridor between Kalgoorlie and Rawlinna in Western Australia remains closed due to significant flooding. The persistent and heavy rainfall in the region is hindering the ARTC's access to various parts of the rail line, delaying recovery operations. Although water levels have reduced in some areas, several sections of the track are still submerged. Crews are currently working on repairing the sections where water has receded, but numerous areas are still affected by flooding. Ideally, the ARTC would reopen the line by Sunday, March 24th, contingent upon improved weather conditions and reduced water levels. However, this timeline is subject to reevaluation in the upcoming days. On a positive note, triple road trains (up to 53.5 metres in length) have been temporarily approved (once again) to help solve this current freight crisis. https://lnkd.in/gAe_VFaQ

EUROPE: Floods bring chaos to railfreight services and river traffic; Europe’s inland waterways are braced for chaos following flooding in southern Germany, which has already made its mark on the region’s rail freight sector causing a reported “70% failure rate”. Persistent heavy rain in southern Germany has led to extreme flooding across the region, with five confirmed casualties, and forced the level of the River Danube to double from its usual level of around three metres to more than six metres. several European countries have been hit by severe flooding, resulting in casualties and widespread property damage. Heavy rainfall has caused rivers to overflow, particularly affecting countries such as Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Hungary. The floods have destroyed roads, bridges, and houses, disrupting transportation and power infrastructure in many areas. Rescue teams have launched emergency operations to evacuate affected residents and work to restore essential services. However, the increasing frequency of extreme weather due to climate change poses a growing challenge for many European nations, calling for stronger emergency responses and long-term disaster prevention strategies.
What are the implications of the floods that have hit many European countries?

Floods have yet again cut both the road and rail network across the Nullarbor. This is the latest incident following the floods in early 2022 where the trans Australian railway line was out for more than 3 weeks. The railway line was closed after a ‘one-in-200-year’ flood event severely damaged hundreds of kilometres of the line. https://lnkd.in/grt7j59B In November 2022, weather also caused a freight train derailment in Western Victoria, which kept the MelbourneAdelaide line closed for over a week. https://lnkd.in/geNguBtv While the Eyre Highway has reopened, the trans-Australian Railway line is expected to remain closed for at least several more days. Given the weather forecast and the high possibility of damage, this could extend out way beyond that timeframe. This again raises the issue of the resilience of our national rail freight network. The last time the WA rail link was cut, it had a direct impact on WA consumers and industry with many supermarket shelves empty for the duration and business inputs in short supply. It is critical that our national freight supply chains have a high degree of resilience, especially for freight rail given the volumes and national economic importance. One for the federal government to consider in terms of the 10 year infrastructure pipeline, as well as the review of the National Freight & Supply Chain Strategy. #freight #railfreight #resilience #climatechange #supplychainresilience https://lnkd.in/g9Ky5D5j
