People already risking their lives handling downed power lines and trying to restore power shouldn’t have to worry about protection from gun violence. This threat however, is an unfortunate reality in 2024. This week at the NASRO National Conference in Phoenix we showcased a product that can bring immediate protection for just this situation, Amulet SafeVest™. A study co-authored by Massachusetts General Hospital physician Eric Fleegler, MD, was covered in MGH's Research Spotlight. The study, "The Updated Haddon Matrix for Pediatric Firearm Injuries," applied the Haddon Matrix to the issue of pediatric gun violence to propose how it can be reduced. "There are multiple interventions that could decrease pediatric gun violence including regulations that would bring “smart” guns to market that only allow authorized individuals to fire, tightly regulate sale of military style weapons, create universal child access prevention laws that require secure storage, and establish resources for de-escalation training, among other changes," said Dr. Fleeger. Firearms are used in half of all U.S. suicide deaths and nearly 70 percent of suicides among Veterans. Secure storage can put time and space between an individual and a firearm and help keep Veterans and their loved ones safe during a suicidal crisis. They collaborate closely with engine companies, offering support in search and rescue, ventilation, and forcible entry, allowing engine companies to focus on fire suppression effectively. Moreover, ladder companies provide essential access and egress points for engine companies by setting up ladders, conducting vertical ventilation, and creating escape routes, contributing significantly to the safety and efficiency of engine operations. In fire attack operations, ladder companies offer vital assistance by providing manpower, tools, and resources to engine companies, aiding in advancing hose lines, conducting overhaul operations, and ensuring effective fire suppression efforts. Equipped with specialized incident command training, ladder companies play a key role in managing incident scenes and coordinating resources, enhancing the overall operation through effective communication with other responding units. Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) we warned you! 😂 you messed with AngryCops! buckle up for the blowback on this one! Ironically, this is actually someone in your corner, that’s the best part! For those who are unaware, the VFW partisans in D.C. pushing the GUARD Act (an overwhelmingly Democratic bill with versions from the House and Senate—which criminalizes everyone but VFW claims assistance (and other ‘nonpartisan’ veterans service organizations—definitely not lobbying in excess *wink wink*) from providing veterans with assistance in their claims handling. The VFW has taken a fascinating offensive position attacking the very veterans (myself included) it aims to recruit—hence, like many VSOs with personality disorders, it can’t figure out if it’s a partisan D.C lobbying firm or if it’s a veterans service organization trying to recruit younger veterans—to you know, provide charitable services they promised Congress and the IRS they would provide. In a new blog post, various agencies describe how they have found a need to have these life-saving professionals integrated into the their tactical teams. “'Probably one of the (incidents) that jumps into my mind, not a significant injury, but it showed to me the value of having immediate medical care … I was assigned to deputies on the backside of a building that were breaching an upper door off of like almost like a deck, and the deputy that was breaching, … he followed through with the ram and ended up hitting his hand on the door frame and busted open his hand and started bleeding… For a brief second, he’s out of the fight. He’s bleeding. He’s injured. I was able to pull him aside, wrap his hand quickly and send him back in to finish the mission. It's unregulated gun shows and other under the counter suppliers who are providing the supply. There's another aspect the government and HS needs to look at also: the massive influx of U.S. military weapons into Mexico. Then again it begs the question - how many U.S. military weapons make their way into the U.S. militias? #illegal weapons #interstate highway system

Did you know, the number of military veterans in the United States reached 15.8 million last year--about 6.1% of the adult civilian population? 2021 had the highest number firearm suicide deaths in U.S. history, with veterans representing 62.4% of firearm suicide deaths. This new study from CSTS investigates motivations for firearm ownership, storage practices, history of mental health disorders and suicide risk in service members, as reported by family members. https://lnkd.in/esvZMTcZ
