Cantilevered: Extending Your Knowledge of Structural Design (#Engineering #Architecture #CivilEngineering) Ever wondered how those daring balconies jut out from buildings? The answer lies in the power of cantilevers! These unsupported horizontal beams are a cornerstone of modern architecture, allowing for: Expansive Balconies & Overhangs: Creating beautiful outdoor spaces and providing shade. Strong Bridges: Used in suspension bridges to support the roadway. Innovative Design: Pushing the boundaries of form and function. In this post, we'll delve deeper into the world of cantilevers, exploring: The engineering principles behind their stability. Different materials used for cantilever construction. 📣News Of The Month - Privacy & Diffused Glazing Considerations 🏡☀️ An important consideration when choosing a rooflight is selecting the type of glass that best suits the project requirements and the needs of the people that will be using the space below. A popular consideration comes in the form of diffused privacy glass, that retains a high level of light transmission while also offering privacy for those beneath the rooflight, particularly if it is overlooked from elevations above or surrounding buildings. found this on my kitchen window frame. Observing mud dauber wasp chambers as an architect offers fascinating insights into natural construction techniques. These chambers, crafted by the wasps from mud, exhibit precision, functionality, and adaptability. The wasps collect mud particles, shape them into tube-like structures, and layer them meticulously. Each chamber is optimized for the wasp's purpose—typically to house its eggs and store paralyzed prey as food for larvae. The mud's structural strength lies in its bonding properties and strategic layering, which ensure durability. This bio-inspired approach can influence sustainable architecture, particularly in earthen construction techniques emphasizing resource efficiency, adaptability, and environmental harmony. https://lnkd.in/dDHVXru6

Have You Heard of Dragon Ties in Historic Buildings? When we think about historic buildings, we often admire their charm and beauty, but behind the scenes, there’s some incredible engineering that keeps them standing. One fascinating feature found in older timber-framed buildings is the dragon tie. So, what is a dragon tie? It’s a diagonal timber beam used in the corners of buildings, particularly in medieval and Tudor timber-framed houses. Its purpose is to support the structure where walls meet at right angles, helping to distribute the roof load and strengthen the frame. Think of it as an early (and elegant) form of reinforcement! Dragon ties allowed builders to achieve larger overhangs – those striking jettied upper floors that give historic buildings their iconic look. As we work to preserve these structures today, it’s a reminder of how traditional building techniques still inspire modern solutions. Does anyone know why they are referred to a dragon ties? There are a few theories…….. #HistoricBuildings #Architecture #TraditionalCraftsmanship #TimberFrame #BuildingConservation #Engineering

Unconventional architecture requires unique formwork concepts, posing a challenge that we gladly accepted, with the construction of the tallest building in Germany used exclusively for residential purposes: the Grand Tower in Frankfurt am Main. 🏢 🏗️ The construction of the 180-metre high building brought with it a multitude of challenges. For example, the ambitious, diamond-shaped floor plan changes from storey to storey. Instead of repeating the layout of the flats on each floor and placing the flat entrances one above the other, the architects opted for different floor plans that alternate according to a predefined pattern. The solution provided by our formwork experts: The building core was constructed independently of the residential units with their varying floor plans. Thanks to precise and customised planning, the project was completed on time and on budget. 🎯 #moresafety #moreproductivity #AtWorkForYou #Hünnebeck

On the set day for our MODERN MODULAR Stone Ridge Residence in the Catskills, the set crew arrived at 7am to begin preparations, and the crane was setup by by 8:30am. The four boxes were delivered to a staging area near the site the day before. The first box was lifted at 9:30 am, and the last one was placed at 12:30 pm. The entire setting process was completed in just 3 hours with a small, but very efficient crew. With modular construction, the building time is significantly reduced compared to traditional methods. The house is expected to be completed within the next four months, by early fall. More R&D at the cob factory…..these are hydraulically pressed ‘curved’ cob bricks. Can be laid flat for a wall construction that incorporates a ‘slow’ bend, laid upright to create an arch or laid end to end for round structures. #cob #sustainablematerials #naturalproducts #architect #interiorarchitecture

Hush A-Z of Building Acoustics… F – Floating floor A floating floor is a type of floor construction that can be highly effective at reducing impact and airborne sound transmission through a floor structure. Floating floors enable a resilient layer to be incorporated into the floor construction to break sound paths and add density if required to block sound. The floating floor panels available from Hush Acoustics help to achieve both goals in single product, complemented by a complete range of accessories to prevent flanking. Designed and constructed correctly, floating floors can accommodate all types of floor finishes, including tiles. See our range floating floor products here: https://lnkd.in/e4uBQ59M #acousticsolutions #acousticdesign #acousticpanels #acousticconsultant #acoustictreatment #soundproofing #soundproof #architects #architecture #renovationproject #buildingregulations #buildingregs #refurbishment #renovation #buildingconstruction #soundinsulation #acousticsolution #acousticinsulation #buildingrestoration
