Internships. What comes to your mind when you think of one? Low-value, no-impact work that exists just for the sake of existing. And that's exactly what I thought would be the case for my internship at Unilever. But, boy, was I wrong. I was given the privilege of working on real projects - creating impact for the company: financially, safety-wise and whatnot. I had the liberty to identify problems and solve them. And that IS what I did for one of my projects (even though the project didn't see the light at the end of the day, it paved the path for moving forward). Throughout this experience, I never once felt like “just an intern.” I was trusted to work independently, contribute meaningfully, and was treated with respect every step of the way – something I’ll never forget. Sure, I learned a lot of technical skills along the way, but I learned one important lesson. If you trust someone with real responsibility, they will achieve incredible things.
