What do Americans say? 🇺🇲 I've always been curious about what Americans think of multilingualism, especially since English is such a dominant language in the United States. That's why I was thrilled to see our intern, Alex, conduct a street interview in New Jersey to gather perspectives from everyday Americans, including parents, grandparents, teachers, young students and many more. "How many languages do you speak?" — such a simple yet inspiring question that opens up a world of discussion. We all know that language is a key that unlocks many doors: to different cultures, identities, economic opportunities, and even jobs. Growing up in a monolingual environment, I often regretted not having the chance to learn multiple languages. However, I am grateful that my children are mastering two of the world's most different languages: Chinese and Finnish. They are also constantly learning other languages just for fun. I hope they cherish this gift as they grow older and never take for granted the power that multilingualism can bring to their lives. How do you view multilingualism in your life or community? How many languages do you speak, and how has it impacted you? Please leave your comments. #Multilingualism #LanguageLearning #CulturalDiversity #GlobalCitizens
