Gatekeepers in media are always looking for ways to attack our #cities and #counties as this piece illustrates. Some key lessons: (1) The person who reported these well intentioned people was not identified or interviewed; (2) The City was given zero airtime to share their side of the story (which is in essence- we have an obligation to follow up when a citizen files a complaint; how the city would love to find a solution and help enhance this fundraiser; etc etc) (3) Most importantly- note that AP is using vertical (9:16) video - to create a social media story with deeper reach and more engagement versus just a standard pull from their newsfeed. This is yet another example of why Canva posts about various happenings and updates on meetings are simply not enough in a dynamic and fast changing media environment. The lesson: strong, strategic social media can combat misinformation from those seeking to make you the bad guy who shut down a little kid and his ice cream stand.
