It is common knowledge by now that we at PURELL® are on our very own journey to become more sustainable (if that’s news to you, you can catch up here!). One aspect of our "Journey To Green" has been mentioned again and again, but has never been examined in detail: the use of recycled plastic. Plastic, once a miracle material, has long since turned into a growing ecological disaster. Believe it or not, every 10 minutes more than 5.2 million kilograms of plastic waste are generated! We believe that it is the responsibility of every company and individual to work towards a better, more sustainable future where such waste is unthinkable. This means taking care of our planet, its ecosystems and people, and reducing environmental impact, emissions, but also plastic waste. How exactly can we do this? For example, by using recycled plastic (PCR-PET for short). This is exactly what we use for our refill packs. And the journey to these refills starts at the domestic waste bin. 🌍 On Earth Day this year, we're sharing our own Planet vs Plastic story... As a hygiene industry business, a lot of our products incorporate plastics. It's something we're very aware of. Reducing our plastic use is one of our primary business goals. Here are some of the actions we’ve taken in the past 12 months to reduce our impact on the planet: ♻ 42% of all input plastic is now recycled ⬇ 16% reduction in all input plastic 🔄 We've implemented a reclamation programme, through which we’ve already switched to 26% of total plastic in our products being re-used or reconditioned i.e. NOT newly produced 🚮 21% reduction in total business waste, of which 95% is recycled Whilst we're proud of what we've achieved, we've also set ambitious targets to double-down on our efforts over the next year.
