My first job was with the local newspaper. Typesetting was punched out on an old machine and the tickertape fed into a computer that was the size of a large desk on its side! I learned to be resilient, adaptable with the tools at hand and never be afraid to ask for help when I didn't understand how or why something didn't click with me. Everyone has a different take on any given situation. Be flexible.
The lesson of empathy (the ability to relate to another's situation and/or circumstance). Empathy enables understanding, compassion, and trust.
From my previous job I learnt the importance of being accountable and be willing to rectify my mistakes without blaming someone else. Before I used to complain the instructions were not clear and all I would have done is ask and get clarity. Still learning more and more.
I learned to be organized and to be adaptable.
I learnt how to think creatively and look for solutions to problems
I worked in retail, I was 14 years old. I worked at Alexander's in the shoe department, in 1981. I learned analytical skills, organizational skills, detail-oriented skills and how to deescalate customer issues.
