Join MUNZING at the Waterborne Symposium in New Orleans February 4-9. Plan to attend the presentation on Thursday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m. on "Dispersants for Silicate and High-pH Paints". Silicate paints are known for their extremely durable, breathable finish on mineral surfaces. They are enjoying more widespread interest in today's sustainability-focused setting because they are naturally water-based, they are coalescent- and VOC-free, and their high pH eliminates the need for biocide. These specialty formulations can nevertheless exhibit many of the same in-can and application issues as their traditional acrylic- or latex-based architectural coating counterparts. While additives are available to optimize performance, not every additive for waterborne paint is suitable for use in a silicate paint. This presentation outlines the development and qualification of a new alkali-stable, high-molecular weight dispersant optimized for dispersing efficiency across pigment types in both silicate and non-silicate paint formulations.
