What’s your counter-intuitive, half-crazy predictions about your field in the next 5 years?🔮 Do you need a PhD to become a sustainability pro?👩🎓 How does one build a career from putting satellites transmitter on the back of a penguin to a Sustainability Director?🐧 It’s such a delight to moderate the panel discussion joined by Alexandra Monson, Emma Wright, Pooja Sharma and Tarin Cummings to explore career opportunities in Environment & Sustainability within a 35,000-people organisation! My biggest takeaways: ✅We may come from diverse backgrounds, and it is our shared passion and purpose that got us here. ✅Whether our role is operationally focused, client facing, or in a group function, people skills can never be overemphasized. ✅You never know what opportunity a random conversation may open up, when it does, take it! A massive thanks to all panelists who generously shared their insights with candor and humour. And a big thumbs up to Alex Cockerton and Esther Starc who champion the first Ventia Virtual Career Fair which this panel discussion is part of. Together, we build connections, capabilities, and careers.🤝 #Connection #Purpose #Leadership

Earlier this summer we asked members of our advisory board to recommend a book for young people just starting out in their careers and give their reasons why they should read this book. We then gave these books out at the workshops we hosted at the Creative Festival and Careers Fair in Margate when we launched our new initiative NewGen. Every recipient promised to pass the book and the letter on once read so these books are slowly making their way around friendship groups and making an impact as they go. Nic Neal, People & Culture Consultant recommended 'Think Like A Monk' by Jay Shetty. Why? This book emphasises the importance of moving towards your goals with purpose and intent rather than simply manifesting and hoping for the best. It also provides ways to make our minds a kinder place to be. Jay simplifies the timeless wisdom he learned as a monk into practical, actionable steps to train your mind for peace and purpose every day. Nic says it's an essential guide to navigating our fast paced, stressed out and disconnected world. Thanks for sharing Nic. ---------------------- 👋 We’re Team Elevate Max Fellows, MELISSA NOAKES & Peter Kerwood 💪 Supported by our Ambassadors & our Advisory Board 👊 Providing mentoring & building community within the events industry 🙏 Changing lives, careers & the events industry for the better Do you want to see more from us? 🔔 Ring the bell on our profile to be notified of all our posts #️⃣ Follow #ElevateMentoring ➕ Connect with us #ChangingLives #Mentoring #EventprofsUK #EventProfs

If you are someone like me who has 0 guidance while making career choices, I’m here to help! Well I understand not having guidance or support when making career decisions can be challenging. Here are some options which I personally feel should be considered: 1. Career Counseling: There are hundreds and thousands of schools and universities offering career counseling services. You can also search on websites like LinkedIn's Career Explorer, CareerOneStop, and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), they provide valuable insights and suggestions. 2. Seek advice: Talk to people in industries or roles that interest you. Ask questions and gain insights from their experience. 3. Set goals: Create short term and long term goals for your career journey. 4. Industry Events: Attend industry events, conferences, and job fairs to network with professionals and learn about different career paths. 5.Keep an open mind: Be willing to explore different options and don’t limit yourself to one specific path. 6. Self-Reflection: Take time to reflect on your strengths, interests, and values. Ask yourself questions like: - What activities do I enjoy? - What am I good at? - What are my values and priorities? Remember, career choices are not permanent, and it's okay to pivot and adjust your path as you learn and grow. You got this! Keep in mind that you can also reach out to people in your desired field or industry and ask for their advice or insights. People are often willing to help and share their experiences. #Careerchoices #Success #Nothingcomeseasy #Goals

🌟 Thrilled to Share Insights from Our Recent SME Career Café! 🌟 This April, I was privileged to contribute to an insightful session hosted by SME (the Society of Manufacturing Engineers), focusing on a crucial aspect of professional success: Soft Skills. KEY INSIGHTS FROM THE SESSION: During the SME Career Café, alongside experts like Arthur Hughes, Monica Lawson, and Christie Hasbrouck, we discussed the importance of soft skills. Here are some highlights: ►Effective Communication and Emotional Intelligence are critical for enhancing workplace dynamics. ►Conflict Resolution, Critical Thinking, and Adaptability are indispensable for managing the complexities of modern work environments. ►Arthur and I emphasized the importance of storytelling in interviews, using the CAR (Challenge, Action, Result) approach to showcase adaptability and problem-solving capabilities. Soft skills are more than just essential competencies; they are the foundation of effective leadership and collaboration. This session reinforced their significance, especially as work environments continue to evolve, including shifts toward remote settings. Let’s prioritize the development of soft skills to navigate and thrive in an increasingly dynamic work landscape. Every interaction is an opportunity to practice and hone these critical abilities! READ MORE ON THE SME BLOG: For a more detailed breakdown of the discussions and insights from our SME Career Café on soft skills, visit the SME blog at [SME Blog: Highlights from SME Career Café - What are Soft Skills?](https://lnkd.in/eu86szNQ). MY ROLE WITH SME AND WIM: In addition to the Coffee Cafes, supporting the SME and WiM (Women in Manufacturing) virtual career fair has been a wonderfully rewarding experience. Contributing to discussions that enhance career opportunities and build a supportive network for professionals is something I am deeply passionate about. I'm grateful for the chance to engage with so many talented individuals and to continue learning and growing together. Let’s keep the conversation going! #SMEMembership #CareerDevelopment #ManufacturingExcellence #WomenInManufacturing
