We were honored to have St. Louis Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III join our recent "Investment Tea" to discuss the intersection of sports, investing, and generational family business. The DeWitt family sees the Cardinals franchise as similar to a public trust they are stewarding for the city of St. Louis—a tremendous responsibility they approach with immense care as owners.

Hard to fault Mark Cuban for cashing out a large chunk of his investment in the Dallas Mavericks - especially when he will retain operating control over the basketball club. I'm not sure his ROI on the deal, but in the 23 years since he bought the club, its value has risen by well over 10x. By retaining a still-substantial portion of ownership, day-to-day management and control, and having billions to invest elsewhere and diversify his holdings and ability to impact the world, this looks like a smart move. (Unless, of course, he is going to blow $2 billion on a presidential campaing!) #markcuban #nba #dallasmavericks #adelson #investing #investments #longterminvesting #diversificationofassets

Mark Cuban is selling a majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks What sets this deal apart is that, despite selling a majority stake the family of the late casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, Mark Cuban will retain complete control over basketball operations. That means he would turn $285 million into $3.5 billion AND maintain control of the franchise — a totally unprecedented move in sports. If the deal is finalized, it would merge the interests of Cuban and the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, which have planned to partner in building a casino and resort in Dallas if gambling is legalized in the Lone Star state. What a legendary move by Cuban, who continues to disrupt sports by thinking outside the box!

Mark Cuban is selling the Dallas Mavericks to Miriam Adelson for an estimated $3.5 billion. Despite the price, Cuban will retain shares in the team and maintain full control of basketball operations. But why this strategic partnership? This decision is more than a mere ownership change; it signals Cuban's larger vision. A vision that could affect every Texan. Cuban is rumored to be working toward transforming the Mavericks arena into a massive entertainment venue. One that is home to entertainment, sports, and gambling. The choice of Miriam Adelson as a strategic partner is particularly telling. Because the Adelsons run a global gambling empire. This partnership hints at Cuban's ambition to push for the legalization of gambling in the Lone Star state. This partnership could revolutionize the Mavericks' home into a hub of entertainment, sports, and betting. This is an example of the power of strategic partnerships. It shows how shifting a portion of a successful venture can pave the way for bigger opportunities.
