This article sums up an arduous first year with Food Next Door Co-op Ltd. It started with fronting up to despondent members and frustrated project partners and bearing the brunt of mission creep. Grants present a growth opportunity, but you have to put in the time as its a specialised skill. Focusing on the mission with limited working capital will force many to make their organisations suit the grants on the market. On Reflection: 2023 meant CASHFLOW 1. 1:3 revenue mix is a reliastic goal with social agriculture enterprise and takes time to achieve. 2. Consistently plant new crops and seeds for partnership. 3. Consistently build the capacity Co-op members. 4. Cultivate healthy ongoing local community partnerships. 5. Not all grants are right for you 🗝️ great article!!

With Yield Giving announcing the latest round of MacKenzie Scott's generous funding, many philanthropic facilitators (aka development directors, gift officers, fundraisers) are likely hearing from many well-meaning colleagues and board members asking if "we applied" or "we need more grants" or "why can't we get funding like this." The generosity of MacKenzie and others like her is to be applauded, but it is also important to remember the work that goes into securing grants of this size from any foundation and the financial requirements and reporting that are required after the gift is received. Here is a timely article on grant funding to help you decide if that grant is right for your organization. https://lnkd.in/gF244Ktq #philanthropy #nonprofits #grants #strategy

Finance Director | Financial and Operational Consultant on a mission to help nonprofit organizations reach peak performance
There is a lot of great information in the article about grants. Working with smaller nonprofits here are a few notes I wish to state: 1. Most smaller nonprofits cannot even apply to receive MacKenzie Scott's donations. While what she does is great for philanthropy and more people of wealth should be doing the same, her donations primarily go to already established organization with a history of providing strong programs. 2. When applying for grants (especially those governmental grants) you need to consider the amount of reporting and documentation needed. Since many of these are reimbursable grants you better have reserves while waiting for that money to arrive. 3. With limited resources, many smaller organizations really need to focus on just a few grants because they cannot afford a full time grant writer and writing grants does take a lot of time. Better make sure your programs are already making a big impact and have other sources in case that grant ends. Thanks for providing this information Brieanna Quinn, MA. I think many nonprofits can certainly use the tips. #nonprofits #nonprofitorganization #nonprofit #grantwriting #grants
