I talked to Brandon Larson at Mavenir about how openness and automation work together to innovate wireless networks and how AI, ML and GenAI play central but distinct roles in enabling this transformation. It is not coincidental that networks are evolving towards openness and automation at the same time. Openness brings flexibility and choice but also increases complexity. Automation, aided by cloudification and AI, enables operators to manage complexity and benefit from the increased network choice and flexibility. Together, openness and automation are changing how we operate networks and deliver services in a profound and long-lasting way. Question: What the impact of #AI traffic on #internet, #WAN and #LAN. BT Group is monitoring and modelling the impacts closely but it is still very early days and I want hear insights from colleagues in the industry. What are your findings so far or predictions? #networks new requirements? impacts? Implications? New drivers: Addressing #DataGravity chalenges, Copilot on every end user device talking to the cloud, AI added to existing platform providers via third parties resulting in tromboned flows, Elephant Flows beyond the DC, Data collection and Curation, inference on the edge etc. What load balancing, congestion and capacity management will this drive beyond the DC?

OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT-4o, demonstrating remarkable real-time communication capabilities. During the demo, a wired connection was used to ensure robust connectivity, underscoring the crucial role of reliable connectivity for AI. This scenario illustrates the future where not just AI, but all processing power, could be distributed at the edge or in the cloud. Connectivity solutions like 5G will be pivotal in this evolution. The advancements in AI reinforce my confidence in 5G, as reliable, ultra-low latency connectivity solutions will soon become ubiquitous. I can already imagine myself wearing glasses with a display, harnessing the computing power of a supercomputer through the power of cloud computing and 5G connectivity. The future is fast, and it is wireless.

I usually refrain from sharing my ideas on LinkedIn to avoid contributing to unnecessary noise. However, I feel the urge to contribute to the AIOps adoption in our beloved telecom networks. 🌐 Our industry has and still converging Telco with IT through innovations like cloud, containers, and the pervasive integration of AI. To accelerate progress, we often adopt successful IT strategies of AIOps, such as Grouping AI in IT Operations to Telecom Network Operations. But guess what? These strategies don’t deliver the same benefits and value in Telco as they do in IT. 📉 In a series of posts, I want to stimulate a discussion around this topic. Together, we might discover a practical and pragmatic approach to truly enhance Telco networks and deliver a true Customer Experience. Stay tuned! 🚀 #AIOps #TelcoNetworks #NetworkManagement #AI #CustomerExperience #Innovation

The AI revolution is rapidly accelerating, and networking infrastructure lies at its core. As Ram V.elga of Broadcom highlighted, up to 70% of GPU consumption today is by the major cloud providers building massive AI clusters with hundreds of thousands of accelerators. This requires a transformational shift in networking capabilities to enable the immense bandwidth and ultra-low latency required for distributed AI training and inference. The demands of AI will continue to drive both network performance in the data center and for AI in networking in the years ahead. Juniper Networks is committed to relentless innovation to drive this AI/ML renaissance, positioning our customers to unleash the full potential of artificial intelligence. In my last post (https://rb.gy/5lnjhn), we discussed the convergence of Telco with IT and the potential of AIOps strategies like Grouping AI. But Telco networks present unique challenges for AI. 1- Dynamic Networks & Cascading Effects: Telco environments constantly change, and minor issues can snowball into major customer experience (CX) disruptions. Supervised models, like Grouping AI, rely on predefined patterns that might miss these evolving situations. 2- Unsupervised AI to the Rescue? Unsupervised AI can analyze unlabeled data, potentially adapting to dynamic networks and identifying novel issues. It can also detect complex interdependencies between network elements that supervised models might miss. 3- Expertise Integration is Key: While unsupervised AI can reveal hidden relationships and emerging threats, it doesn't replace human expertise. Telco professionals bring deep domain knowledge to interpret these patterns and take action. Simply grouping alerts isn't enough. We need a network-specific, CX-focused approach that leverages unsupervised AI alongside human expertise. What specific examples have you seen of unsupervised AI being used effectively in Telco networks? Share your thoughts! 🚀 Stay tuned for the next post in this series where we will explore potential solutions and how we can adapt AI to better serve Telco networks and enhance Customer Experience. #AIOps #TelcoNetworks #NetworkManagement #AI #CustomerExperience #Innovation
