How to be a great hiring manager 101 Yesterday, me and Patrycja had a brief/kick-off call for a new role. We got: 1. Clear expectations regarding MOST IMPORTANT tech skills and traits 2. Insights in what problems/challenges this person will solve 3. Precise information on how they will conduct the recruitment process and how they will check for required skills. 4. Information on what previous candidates were missing and what HM is looking for in their CVs/portfolios. 5. Proper commitment from the Team Lead to work with us and provide feedback And all the other important stuff. All we needed to pinpoint the profile with sniper precision. From my experience, no other part of the recruitment process makes a bigger difference than taking a proper brief. So shout out to all those HMs who understand that and are working with their recruiters. I am a fan of yours.

Nnko Our biggest challenge is that interview panelists/employers structure their interview questions in a way that they aim to test if the interview candidate knows what they want to know instead of eagerly seeking to understand what the candidate knows! Anyway, the genesis of this starts in our examinations; they are structured in a way that covers a very small portion of what is taught in class, yet they are used to test our capacity and grade us. I wish that one day, students will enter the exam room for Biology and find only one question: "What have you learned in Biology?" Here is where we will discover how genius people are!
