Every gift you make goes directly to programs that are transforming the lives of animals and their humans. Our Foster and Adoption program is a beacon of hope for the most at-risk animals in our partner shelters, while our preventative programs—like PASS, Dogs Matter, and Bark Dorm—work tirelessly to keep pets out of shelters and in loving homes. These initiatives are not just about rescue; they're about building healthier, stronger communities where animals and people thrive together. The need is urgent. Many of the pets that come into our care have medical conditions so severe that shelters simply can't provide the care they need. Over a third of the animals we help are Major Medical Cases, requiring $1,000 or more in medical expenses. In 2023 alone, we spent more than $400,000 on treatments ranging from basic vaccinations to heartworm treatment and life-saving surgeries. This year, as we've taken on the incredible work of Dogs Matter and face the overwhelming overcrowding in North Texas shelters, the number of animals in our care has more than doubled. For the first time, we have more than 500 animals relying on our programs. While we've made strides in fundraising, the financial demands have outpaced our resources.

If you know anyone in Junior League of The Woodlands, Inc. - you know that this week is our "Little Black Dress Initiative". For 5 days, League Members will either wear a black dress or a black t-shirt and will raise funds/awareness around the programs we support as a league. We focus on teen empowerment on the second day of our LBDI campaign. Through InSTEP (In Support of Teen Empowerment and Progress), a Junior League of The Woodlands program, helps improve social skills, academic achievement, and self-esteem. One issue that InSTEP tackles is Period Poverty—a growing public health crisis and stigma that keeps girls out of school. 1 in 4 young women has missed school as a result of their lack of access to period products. Since the coronavirus pandemic, chronic absenteeism has increased nationwide, and Period Poverty is contributing to the rise. One study found that by 9th grade, every week a student misses school reduces that student’s chance of graduating by about 20%. Your donation makes a real impact. In the last two years, In STEP distributed over 100,000 feminine hygiene products across 8 school districts in North Harris and Montgomery County, combating the effects of Period Poverty and chronic absenteeism. The LiveFree OKC Peace Needs Conference was truly a powerful experience. The conference brought together a diverse group of voices from law enforcement, engaged citizens, and activists to faith leaders and elected officials. Together, we focused on policies of peace and community-driven solutions to one of the most pressing issues in our society: gun violence. Some of the sessions tackled critical topics like gun violence in America, community violence intervention, school-based violence prevention, and how faith communities can become true houses of peace. What struck me the most was the commitment to finding common ground – putting politics aside to build consensus for a safer future. As the board president of LiveFree OKC, I’ve witnessed firsthand the dedication and heart of our team. Their tireless work in serving Ward 7, is making a real difference – more of our children are making it home safely every day. I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished, but there’s still so much work to be done. If you believe in peace, justice, and a future free of gun violence, I invite you to join us. We have come to the end of the trauma-informed approaches module and so the focus for our last session together has been to learn from organisations that take a holistic whole-organisation approach to embedding trauma-informed principles. Debra Doggett from the Planned Environment Therapy Trust Archive provided us with a really powerful and empowering example of what can be done by demonstrating how the trauma-informed approach of the charity in which PETTA is based infuses through the archive service too. So exciting to see their approach to supervising staff; putting feelings at the centre of team discussion; prioritising reflexive practice, discussion and spaces; enabling creative and healing responses to the archive and developing trauma-informed policy and procedures for every aspect of archive work. Such an inspiring way to end the module, and so much good practice here that we can all learn from
