State Senator - 28th Senatorial District of Pennsylvania at Senate Of Pennsylvania, Majority Caucus Chair
Landline telephone companies were once the monopoly for telephone service in our homes. Today, these companies are working to bring high-speed internet to Pennsylvanians. As demand for "landlines" in homes 📉 and demand for reliable high-speed internet 📈, these companies are still required to comply with outdated regulations. Today, the Senate Communications and Technology Committee took a big step to repeal these archaic regulations through Senate Bill 85. Removing these barriers will free up these companies to effectively and efficiently deploy high-speed internet across the Commonwealth. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/etk2ah-b

That, dial up internet... ...notable iconic dial up tune and memorable speed... Pipex brought the internet to UK businesses in the 90s, becoming the first commercial service provider and gained a major customer Demon Internet who made dial up internet accessible to the public. How does it work? Dial up internet used a modem that coverts data to signals when a computer is connected to a local server. The modem picks up and dials a number associated to an ISP’s device using the telephone connection in order to receive a connection. This process did make internet more accessible and affordable as it came under call plans but was slow. The telephone line would remain occupied during the online period, meaning consumers couldn’t call once connected. Nevertheless, this allowed many to use email, search and more. Top speeds through dial up internet reached 56kb nearing the end of the 90s. If 1mb equates to around 1024 kilobyte, you can imagine the speed... How far we have come. What's your memory of the old days? #internet #throwback #history #telecommunications
