Continue to talk about the #microdistrict project in Blagoveshchensk. Here are some #urbansolutions aimed at developing the #city #environment. The area was developed on the basic principles of a comfortable urban environment. Within the territory there are minimum intersections of transport and pedestrian flows, and in the children's area (school, playgrounds and kindergarten) passages are given the exclusive priority of pedestrians. Also, special attention is paid to the #embankment of the Zeya River, the accessibility of the water zone and pedestrian “magnets”. The #architecture of the district was created based on an analysis of the #historical and modern architecture of Blagoveshchensk. The building #facades were inspired by the expressive means of the “old” city. #urbandesign #urbanplanning

How can we reshape our public spaces to nurture our cities and create healthy, sustainable and resilient places to live? Landscape Architects Churchman Thornhill Finch led the Shape My City students in a rethinking of Bristol's harbourside Amphitheatre. The session started with studying the site - looking at both the macro and micro scale - and then students reimagined the space through 3d sketches in collage and modelling. The students interrogated how we can create places to sit and spend time, to move through and to socialise, and how public spaces can give back to people of all ages and to nature. Proposals included water features, art work and play spaces, as well as plentiful planting 🌿 Consideration was given to permanent and temporary uses, how the space evolves through different times of day and year, and allowing people to walk, sit, cycle and skate through the same area in harmony with one another. This is the eighth session in the 2023-24 Shape My City programme. Applications for the 2024-25 programme are now open. Shall we create a development strategy for a set of towns and villages of the Centre Interior to help revitalize this area of the Centre Region? Shall we turn this set of villages into actors of the cultural landscape of this region as territorial communities? Shall we discuss and rehearse how architecture can help to achieve these goals? These questions are the drive for the works that will be carried out in the Design Studio ID and Design Studio IID in the academic years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025, leading to a set of Dissertations integrated on the research line “Back to the rural or how to strengthen the cohesion of the regional town?” (Back to the rural), coordinated by Professors Adelino Goncalves and Margarida Relvão Calmeiro. These works focus on a set of towns and villages from the five municipalities that are victims of the coastalization of the country and the consequent abandonment of the heart of Portugal. The five municipalities involved are: Idanha-a-Nova, Oleiros, Pedrogão-Grande, Proença-a-Nova and Serta.
