“We shall sing to them, what we can not say to them” Thank you to the University of Redlands Conservatory of Music, Inland Empire Master Chorale, and the Defiant: Requiem Foundation for creating such a powerful statement of music, and for the opportunity of learning such a impactful topic in history and selection of music. Specialist business development support for solicitors, attorneys, barristers, accountants, business advisers and IP practitioners
What business development lessons can you learn from going to see Black Uhuru? I had the pleasure of going to a reggae gig with Steve Davies and Andy Green FRSA at the Camden Jazz cafe in London last night. 5 BD lessons learned: 🕺Music connects people. A diverse audience enjoyed the event connected by a shared love of reggae. 💪Adapt or die. Today there are few members of the original Black Uhuru line up. Despite the change in personnel the sound and spirit remains the same. ⛓️💥Engage, Engage, Engage. The experience of live music should feel different to listening at home. The band know this and engage their audience with energy in their performance. 😊Give your audience what they want. Black Uhuru repeated the fans favourites because that’s what they wanted. 💉Positivity is infectious. Look like you want to be in the room. #relationshipbuilding #businessdevelopment

The akonting instrument was the first banjo, which the slaves brought from Africa. The first performer on the Grande Ole Opry was DeFord Bailey, a former slave. My father Matthew Sr. loved country music and is where Beyoncé first heard country music when she was 2-3 years old in Gadsden, Alabama.

For those of you who say/think you're being humanitarian and peace activists - THIS is what you're supporting. This is only one of hundreds of similar stories for over 1000 people who were executed, 240+ who were taken hostage to be r@ped, mvrd3d, t0rtur3d - some still. Hostage taking is a war crime and a crime against humanity. So is s3xu@l violence, so is targeting and k!ll!ng civilians. And this is g3n0c!dal intent. Defending yourself is NOT. Yes, every lost life is a tragedy - even a combatant - but intent is what separates a crime from causing a death accidentally. H@m-a$$ uses THEIR OWN PEOPLE as shields. For them, it's a strategy to get good pre$$ - so keep those likes and posts and money coming, which makes you complicit. War is terrible - don't start one, and don't be surprised when the attacked defends themselves and goes after the perpetrators and leaders. This is NOT about land, it's NOT "freedom from oppression" - they don't want a 2 state solution (they've had one since 2005 and look what they've done with that) - they just want ALL of Israel, and they want ALL Jews wiped off the planet (BTW, that's g3n0c!d3). But, make no mistake - YOU'RE ALL NEXT. #releasethehostages #standwithisrael #westisnext #westisnow #wakeupworld
This is Rafaela’s story of surviving the massacre by Hamas terrorists at the Nova music festival on October 7th, but she lost her partner who was murdered there. זה הסיפור של רפאלה ששרדה את הטבח של מחבלי חמאס במסיבת הנובה ב-7 באוקטובר, אך איבדה שם את בן הזוג שלה שנרצח.

Visiting a part of the world with a vastly different political system and culture was eye-opening. Besides singing, one of the most striking experiences was browsing Chinese web browsers and news sites and noticing the state propaganda around the city. The way current events were presented, often with a much more positive spin, was interesting. While I strongly oppose mass surveillance, I was surprised to see an unexpected benefit: the freedom cyclists had to leave their expensive bikes unattended without fear of theft. Although I believe this advantage doesn't outweigh the significant human rights concerns, it did offer me a glimpse into another perspective. Finally, seeing the Great Wall of China, which dates back to the 7th century BC, offered some timeless lessons. The sheer size and endurance of the wall showed me just how far civilizations will go to protect themselves, both physically and psychologically. The wall wasn’t just a physical barrier; it was also a psychological one, sending a message of strength and deterrence to potential invaders. It drove home what I had seen throughout Beijing - that sometimes the perception of power can be just as important as actual power. The wall also made me think about the downside of isolation. While it provided security, it also symbolised a desire to keep out external influences, which, over time, led to stagnation and, eventually, the wall falling into disrepair. This had a negative impact on the Chinese economy at several points in history, even contributing to the collapse of some empires. So, while barriers can protect, they can also limit growth and exchange—something that feels like a perfect analogy for my first year at Kings.
The Choir of King’s College London recently had the honour of performing at the 17th International China Chorus Festival in Beijing. 🌏🎶 Joining 16,000 singers from around the world, our choir performed three concerts, illustrated a masterclass on conducting led by Dr Joseph Fort, Music Director and Senior Lecturer in the Music Department, and participated in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Their repertoire included folk classics, British part-songs, and two Chinese folk songs, "Mo Li Hua" and "Kang Ding Love-song." These final pieces were particularly well-received, earning cheers and applause from the audiences. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eeaK-Q5H

Important message for every voter- watch video attached!
This week on #MorningMika, I have a very special treat for you: My husband, Joe Scarborough, the host of Morning Joe, is a musician, but you may not know his background. Joe grew up in church communities in the Deep South. His mother had a master’s in music and worked as a music director and organist at churches while Joe was growing up. She taught him piano in between his church choir practices and Bible studies. He always loved writing rock songs, but it was gospel music from both white and Black churches that came most naturally to him as a writer. He’s private about his music, but when I heard a song he recorded this summer called "No Guarantees," I encouraged him to record and share the song about the importance of standing up and doing what’s needed to save democracy. Inspired by a Richard Cohen Washington Post column from 20 years ago that described the peaceful life of Jews at a German summer camp the year before the Holocaust began, Joe wrote "No Guarantees" as both a warning and a song of hope. I wanted you to hear it. Join me in watching and sharing this important message 👇 and remember you can make a difference this November at the voting booth 💪 Many thanks to this amazing group of singers and musicians 😍 : Roz Brown, Keisha Whitney, Jeremy Kelsey, Deirdre Fields, Dachonne Nicole, Tanesha Gary, Mike Hammond, Anita Wells, Shaina Kitchener, Tawana Shaver, James Alexander, Troy Weekes, Mitch Matlock #NoGuarantees #NewMusicFriday #MorningJoe #JoeScarborough #GoVote Know Your Value
