Expect the unexpected for we have never experienced the first month of school like we have so far in school year 2024-2025. On this last Friday of September, September 27, 2024, I do celebrate on this 14th anniversary of New York City Mayor, Mike Bloomberg, P-TECH announcement (September 27, 2010), that there are now at least 10 P-TECHs in NYC Department of Education/NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS and almost all are in the CUNY and Urban Assembly Secondary Schools Network with Superintendent Fred Walsh Deputy Superintendent Melanie Lee and Executive Director Buffie Whitfield B.A, M.A, M.A, Ph.D. There are P-TECH graduates in all 10 economic regions across New York State and P-TECH graduates in all 5 boroughs of New York City. Rachel Rosen, MDRC "We believe that CTE leaders will be really interested in the positive impact that we're seeing for students who are participating in P-TECH. P-TECH 9-14 students signed up for dual enrollment programs at higher rates, attempting and earning more college credits than the comparison group students by the end of four years in high school". MDRC P-TECH 9-14 Pathways to Success Implementation, Impact, and Cost Findings from the New York City P-TECH 9-14 Schools Evaluation New findings in this report indicate that the P-TECH model increased students' postsecondary degree completion, particularly for male students, and boosted internship and dual enrollment rates, even during the pandemic. "By the end of the first year of postsecondary education, 2.6 percent of female and 1.8 percent of male P-TECH 9-14 students had earned degrees, compared with virtually no students from the comparison group, of either gender. As this 2024 #blackhistorymonth and #ctemonth comes to a close, I am highlighting Yusuf A. Muhammad, Jr. of Atlanta Public Schools Sunday, February 25, 2024 #happybirthday Ten years ago Yusuf A. Muhammad, Jr. and I were early college principals partnered with The City University of New York and specifically City Tech, CUNY. Yusuf was principal of City Polytechnic High School (CUNY and Urban Assembly Secondary Schools) that opened in 2009 as a grade 9-13 and converted to a Pathways in Technology Early College High School 9-14 in 2015. Yusuf A. Muhammad, Jr. was principal of Carver STEAM Academy when they opened the first P-TECH program in the state of Georgia. In October 2023 MDRC released P-TECH 9-14 Pathways to Success: Implementation, Impact, and Cost Findings from the New York City P-TECH 9-14 Schools Evaluation This report provides three years of post-high school follow-up, including during the pandemic. Previous reports from the study showed that P-TECH students earned more credits, passed more New York State Regents exams, and were much more likely to take college courses and earn college credits in high school than comparison group students. New findings in this report indicate that the P-TECH model increased students' postsecondary degree completion, particularly for male students, and boosted internship and dual enrollment rates, even during the pandemic. https://lnkd.in/em9BhsnB #weareptech #skillsbuild #skillsfirst #skills2030 PTECH Brooklyn HS Alumni Network NYC Department of Education IBM IBM iX The State University of New York New York State Education Department www.ptech.org
