I am often asked about taking risk. Sometimes, the questions revolve around the fear of taking risks, while other questions are about how to calculate risk effectively. Risk-taking is important for success because it is what moves you forward toward a larger goal. When you accept the risk of trying something new or innovative, it is important that the team actually plans for failure. One of the reasons people are so afraid to take risks is that they fear the repercussions of failure. If a team comes together and has a strategy for failure, the team will be more confident as they execute their plans. Having a strategy for failure is the key to risk management: failure won’t result in a scary unknown if you have a known plan. How do you manage risk?
