Interesting little analysis on field hockey just completed. Goals per game have been increasing since the 1980s in both the men’s and women’s side of the sport. But, the number of goals has been increasing faster in the men’s game than the women’s possibly as a consequence of the major rule changes implemented between the early 1990s through to 2014.  Is the push by the FIH to make the game quicker, more exciting creating an 'entertainment gap' between the two sides of the sport? Growing up playing hockey, the games, tournaments and practices were always fun (of course). 🏒 However, the off-ice camaraderie through team-building activities was usually the best way to bring the team together to accomplish a common goal. At tournaments especially, the ol' knee hockey scrimmage in the hotel hallway was the usual hit, but team dinners, attending NHL games together and off-ice workouts always helped the team gel and get ready to lace 'em up.
