**Design Spotlight: Unpacking the Clever AFL Women's Logo** At first glance, this design might just look like a stylised “W,” but there's much more to it! When I pointed this out to friends, many did not notice the hidden element in this design. This logo is actually a smart visual representation of two elements: 1. The "W" representing the women's AFL league. 2. A goal square and goal posts cleverly drawn from a unique angle that echoes Australian rules football goal structure. The integration of these elements into a single visual shows how well-designed branding can communicate multiple layers of meaning with simplicity and elegance. Sometimes, the smartest designs are those that communicate without needing to say much. This AFLW logo does just that by encapsulating a focal point of the game and the growth of women's football in Australia. → Brand refreshes are expected as time goes on. This can include improving a logo, modernizing social media profiles, updating typography, and possibly enhancing brand colors—maybe that dull old purple needs a bit of OOMPH with a slightly more saturated version. → A rebrand is a completely different beast. It involves a complete overhaul of a brand's identity and positioning. Rebrands are often appropriate if the brand discovers their initial target audience isn’t who they thought they were, if they lack direction, or if they weren't strategic to begin with. A rebrand is meant to solve significant issues, whereas a refresh is intended to keep the brand evolving within the competitive landscape. In just four days i crafted a whole brand identity, And really love the outcome. The idea for Uncuffed Whispers Gin is a passion project inspired by a vintage “Criminal Rap Sheet” found at a flea market. I wanted to create something unique — a identity and packaging that not only looked great but also told a compelling story. "A branding project typically takes more than four weeks, but I set a personal challenge to design a complete brand identity in just four days." The biggest hurdle was my belief that small labels often go unnoticed and don’t grab attention. First, I brainstormed and sketched various concepts, focusing on elements that evoked mystery and intrigue. I refined this concept into a simple yet striking logo that would capture attention. Next, I chose a colour palette limited to just a few shades, ensuring the design remained elegant and cohesive. I played with textures and patterns reminiscent of vintage “rap sheets”. With the design taking shape, I added small details to enhance the story, Each element was carefully placed to ensure the label told a compelling story at a glance. To bring the brand to life, I used a vintage bottle found at a thrift store. The bottle, paired with the label just brought it to the life. Left with 2 hours for the challenge to get over, i had to drop the outter box packaging and other brand collateral to focus on the photography. Completing the Uncuffed Whispers Gin project within just four days proved that a compelling brand identity could be created even with tight constraints. #brandidentiy #logodesign #graphicdesign #branding
