It’s time to bust some myths 🤩 We’re often told that our work-life balance should be equal. I’m here to tell you, that isn’t necessarily true. There were times when I felt like I was constantly teetering on the edge, trying to excel in my businesses while keeping up with my personal life. The pressure was intense, and I often found myself spread too thin. I'd miss out on precious family moments or forget to take care of my own well-being. But here's what I've come to realise… Life isn't about perfection; it's about priorities and seasons. My journey, just like yours, is unique. They lied to you...and to me... They tell us "work-life balance" is the thing that will make us fulfilled. They tell us it's how we can actually "have it all". 🤷♀️ Balance is a MYTH. And they're lying to us all. Leaving us with feelings of failure, disappointment, resentment, low self worth. I encourage clients to think of life like a scale. ⚖️ The only time a scale is perfectly balanced is when it’s empty or completely static - no movement at all. The same goes for us. The only time we’ll truly be "in balance" is when the scales aren't moving. Which is when there’s nothing moving in any direction. Which is when we’re dead. 🕳 Until then, our lives are in constant motion. And the most important thing we can do is honor our highest values. Measure everything against that... With those values as the measuring stick, choose where, how and with whom we spend our energy, time and attention. I celebrate small victories because they matter. 🎉 Acknowledging progress keeps me motivated. Finding joy in everyday moments is key. I've learned that I CAN have it all. 💃🏾 I just can't always have it all at once. Being present in the moment is important. When I’m at work, I focus there. At home, I’m fully present. 🏠 Making sure my kids (nieces and nephews) know that they are THE most important thing in that moment. And always. Perfect balance is a lie. 👺 Embracing the ebb and flow of life and business is what works for me. It's more realistic. Success isn’t about balance. Five years ago, I was drowning in the chaos of a demanding career and a young family. I felt the weight of every missed family dinner and late-night email. Fast-forward to today, and I've found a way to balance work and family life effectively. Here's my journey and what I learned along the way. One evening, after missing another bedtime story, I knew something had to change. I realised that success at work shouldn't come at the expense of family happiness. Here is what I did: I 1. Set Boundaries: Define my work hours and stick to them. Communicate these boundaries clearly to your team. 2. Prioritize Tasks: Focus on high-impact tasks during work hours and leave less critical tasks for later. 3. Delegated: Trusted my team. Delegating not only lightens your load but also empowers others. 4. Spent Quality Time: Schedule dedicated family time like a business meeting. No distractions are allowed. By implementing these strategies, I transformed my work-life balance. My productivity at work increased, and my family life flourished. ✨ You Can Have It All ✨ Have you ever felt like achieving a work-life balance seems impossible? Like you can't have it all? I recently had a conversation with someone who believed that having it all was a myth. But what if it's not? What if the key lies in learning to say no and setting healthy boundaries? Sometimes, our own behaviours hold us back, keeping us stuck in the office instead of creating beneficial boundaries. One of my clients, a mom and a leader like many, began setting boundaries at work. She simply said no to calls after 6 pm. Surprisingly, the whole team sighed with relief and wanted the same. It takes bravery to change a corporate culture, but what's the cost if we don't? Picture yourself at 80, looking back on life. Would you remember all the hours spent at work missing vacations, your kid's soccer games etc or the cherished moments with family, friends, and the adventures you've experienced? Your beliefs matter; you can have it all, but first you need to BELIEVE you can. As we explore the possibility of having it all, let's take a closer look at the limiting beliefs and self sabotaging behaviours that might be holding us back. Saboteurs are the voices in our head originating from our fear based survival brain that tell us we are not good enough as we are and that we have to work late to deliver x, y or z projects. These are what might be preventing you from establishing these boundaries. Most of us are not working in life or death situations but in offices delivering projects, operations, marketing etc. Nothing is worth burning out for think on that. Let's break down these beliefs together and discover how we can redefine them to pave the way for achieving a fulfilling life without compromising well-being and memorable experiences. Remember, balance isn't a far-fetched dream. It's about knowing when to say no, setting boundaries, and aligning priorities.
