Today marks the death anniversary of #DrParvinderSingh, the esteemed Chairman of Ranbaxy -tribute to my #Guru and #Dost
I first met Dr. Singh on November 24, 1990, during a gathering of senior executives at the Taj Palace. Meeting him was an unforgettable experience; here was a #visionary with #global ambitions, determined to create an Indian multinational that would stand tall among the world's best.
While I can write a book on him but I'd like to share just a few cherished stories from my interactions with him:
1. **Ability to Take #BigRisks and Follow the #Dream**:
I remember when we were exploring the production of a bulk drug called 7ACCA. It was an expensive research process, and the first pilot did not meet the quality standards, resulting in a loss of almost 5 crore rupees, nearly a third of our profit. Most of us were disheartened, but Dr. Singh insisted that we persevere with the R&D. His unwavering commitment paid off, and the drug eventually contributed 60 crore rupees, accounting for almost 50% of our profit in the third full year.
2. **#Empathy and #Compassion**:
During a GDR issue trip to Europe, we were traveling from Geneva to Paris. As the only other vegetarian in our group, Dr. Singh noticed that I hadn't eaten much. He came to me and asked what I would like to eat, offering to fetch it himself from the pantry car. Despite my insistence that I could manage, he insisted on getting sandwiches for both of us. His thoughtful gesture left a lasting impression on me.
3. **#Empowering Teams and #Sharing Wealth**:
Dr. Singh believed in trusting people for their integrity and competence, empowering them to reach their full potential. As one of the youngest members of the senior leadership team, I was given the authority to make significant decisions, opportunities that might have otherwise taken another decade to come my way. While I cannot divulge specifics, his generosity and spiritual nature were evident in his actions.
4. **A Willing -#Listener and #Learner**:
When I decided to leave Ranbaxy after four years to join the Hero Group, I wanted to share candid feedback with Dr. Singh. He spent two hours with me, meticulously taking notes and delving into the reasons behind every comment. His genuine desire to understand and learn was truly inspiring.
Whenever I see this photo I cannot take my eyes off , your aura attracts many and your authenticity is beyond imagination.
Dr. Singh was not just a mentor but a Dost. I have a Dilse respect for you .Even after 30 years since leaving Ranbaxy, the lessons and values he imparted are deeply ingrained in me.
Thank you, Dr. Singh, for laying the foundation of my professional journey. You will always remain in my heart. Continue to bless me from wherever you are.
Fondest regards
Rohit
