There are some hard truths that nonprofit leaders everywhere need to become comfortable with if they want to make prudent strategic decisions concerning the future of their respective organizations. Of these, one in particular that I would like to highlight is the importance of pay transparency across an organization. This applies to job listings, financial reports, and even governance models. When organizations aren't transparent about how people are compensated whether that be entry-level positions or a board of directors, it can do substantial damage to an organization's reputation on multiple fronts. Whether a salary band is too high or too low, it doesn’t really matter, what matters is the fact that obfuscating critical financial information always makes a nonprofit look bad. Unfortunate truth: Many nonprofits struggle to offer robust benefits packages for their employees. Why? Because it's extremely expensive.
