I look forward to addressing the DFW chapter of RIMS (Risk & Insurance Management Society) on March 20th here in DFW. For those #riskmanagers, #cfos #chieffinancialofficer or also #insurancebrokers and #insurancecompanies in the area, I would invite you to join us as this is a presentation on "active shooters" you may have not (ever) heard before, one that discusses their causal factors versus the casualties that follow. Point being, this is about prevention vs. reaction. #defensebydesign

*The Business Case for Fire Door Safety* Beyond the obvious ethical responsibility to protect lives, fire door safety is also a business imperative. Non-compliance with fire safety regulations can lead to fines, legal action, and loss of reputation. More significantly, fire-related incidents can disrupt operations, damage properties, and lead to insurance claims that increase premiums or invalidate policies altogether. What Can You Do This Week and every day? Fire Door Safety Week serves as a reminder for businesses and individuals to take proactive steps toward fire safety. Here are some actions you can take: - Inspect your fire doors: If you're in charge of a building, ensure that fire doors are in proper working condition. Check for visible signs of damage, gaps, and whether the doors close and latch properly. - Raise awareness: Encourage your employees, colleagues, and residents to understand the importance of fire doors. Let them know that wedging open fire doors, even for convenience, could be fatal. - Ensure compliance: Review the regulations in your area and ensure your fire doors meet the necessary standards. Partner with certified professionals to conduct proper installations and inspections. #FDSW2024 #Firedoorsafetyweek

Fall factors are critical in assessing the risk when working at height. The fall factor is a ratio that measures the potential severity of a fall, calculated by dividing the distance a person could fall by the length of the rope or lanyard used to arrest the fall. A fall factor of 0 indicates minimal risk, where the worker is securely anchored and there’s no slack in the rope. A fall factor of 1 occurs when the fall distance equals the length of the rope, representing a higher risk. The highest, fall factor 2, happens when the fall distance is twice the length of the rope, creating a severe impact and high risk of injury. Minimising the fall factor by using shorter lanyards, positioning anchors above the worker, and limiting free-fall distance is essential for safety. Understanding and managing fall factors helps in reducing the risk of serious injuries or fatalities in fall arrest systems. Ground clearance refers to the minimum distance required between the worker and the ground to ensure that a fall arrest system can fully deploy and stop a fall safely. Insufficient ground clearance can result in the worker hitting the ground before the fall arrest system engages, leading to serious injury. for more information visit Eurosafe UK training website at - https://lnkd.in/g2tmsMnu #SafetyFirst #WorkplaceSafety #workingatheight #rescue #training #emergency #development #utilities #riskassessment #cpd #safetytraining #ppe #learning #professionals
