Investing in the talent of the future!!
Last week, we focused on celebrating our people. From the gathering of our current apprentices at our Careers Open Evening to launch our 2025 Degree Apprenticeship opportunities, to honoring our 2024 graduates at the annual presentation day. We welcomed graduates and their families from B+K and our group of businesses, including Innovaré Offsite Limited, Derry Building Services, B&K Hybrid Solutions, Munro Building Services Ltd, and Peveril Decorators Limited. This event acknowledged their achievements, hard work, and dedication in completing their degree apprenticeship or construction apprenticeship, and we proudly presented them with awards. The key to our success is our people, and nurturing talent through training and development is incredibly important to us. Congratulations to all our graduates across the B+K group! #degreeapprenticeships #apprenticeship #copnstructioncareers #construction #constructionjobs #careerinconstruction #webuild #constructionapprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a vital new talent pipeline into industry. I’ve seen the impact of apprenticeships on people and the businesses they work for. I started my career as an apprentice mechanical design engineer involved in the development of flour rolling mills, flaking and pellet mills. We’ve also had many apprentices through the doors at Suprafilt Ltd who have gone on to lead projects and make a huge impact on our business. Apprenticeships are always a strong option for anyone, providing real skills and experience, so it was great to hear the Prime Minister talk about reforms to the system this week at the Labour Party Conference. The route will be made more flexible for businesses and new foundation apprenticeships will be created for young people. We know the water industry is struggling to fill skilled roles due to changing technologies and an ageing workforce. There were reports over summer that an estimated 63,000 vacancies would need to be filled across the industry by 2027. Apprenticeships will be important to address these shortages. Heritage furniture maker Ercol Furniture Ltd praises long-standing apprenticeship scheme The company, which currently has 19 apprentices and has been in operation for more than 100 years, has 56% of its workforce made up of over 50s – many of whom came through its apprenticeship programme. roy graves, Technical Support Manager at ercol, is “extremely proud” of the company’s commitment to valuing their older staff, commenting: “We’re reliant on the skills and experience that the older person brings. So much so that 56% of our staff are over 50. We are also aware of the problems that come with an ageing workforce." https://lnkd.in/eVXzXhwA #furniture #furnishings #manufacturing #ercol #apprenticeships #longservice #workforce #staff #employment Henry Tadros Monika Witney Arno Koch Ian Peers David Finch

Exciting Developments in the Construction Industry! Recently, I caught a segment on BBC's One Show that really resonated with me. A determined 17-year-old shared his journey of seeking career advice for landing an apprenticeship in construction. Despite facing challenges and having to navigate the process on his own, he found his path and is now thriving as an apprentice. Kudos to him for his perseverance and dedication! A mum who was fed-up in her desk role wanted todo more and become self employed set up a plastering business she is thriving and encouraging more women to get into the construction industry. In other news, the launch of new apprenticeship funds this month injects £60 million into the industry. But the question remains: is this enough? With the growing demand for skilled workers, we need hundreds of individuals joining the construction sector each day to up-skill and contribute to building our future. However, when asked, many young people expressed hesitations about entering construction due to misconceptions about working conditions and salary expectations. Let's break down barriers and showcase the rewarding opportunities that construction offers! I'd love to hear your thoughts on how we can attract more talent to your business regardless of the sector. Let's build a brighter future in construction! #ConstructionIndustry #Apprenticeships #BuildingTheFuture
