Hi all, it’s been a while – about 4 years to be precise.   A lot has happened in the last 4 years since I started my account and started my career journey. I can talk about my various achievements throughout my time at university, but I want to address my change in views of my career and my future progression. For the past couple of years, I have been desperately trying to pursue a career in corporate law but it has been the same pattern over and over again – an application cycle opens, I put forward my strongest application possible, I do any required tests, I get rejected. For a while, I ended up in a negative state of mind and I had a sense of disdain for the entire industry – why was everyone biased against me? Why was I not good enough? Was my university my biggest barrier to entry? This style of thinking was not accurate, nor helpful, to improving my situation. It was only by actively taking responsibility for my thoughts and thinking about the principles that define me that I have been able to move away from it and start again. I constantly think about how I am fitting my life around my principles and I feel strongly that this is what will help me push my career forwards. This realignment of thoughts is also what has prompted a slight change in career direction. In July 2024, I will be completing AmplifyMe’s Summer Analyst Training Programme. I have found the itinerary for their programme to be quite compelling and something that will help my career prospects, pursuing roles in finance. It’s a long way going forwards but I’m going to try to get involved and engage as much as I feasibly can. I’ll be sharing my journey throughout, hopefully make some important new connections and engage with others frequently.

This year, Goldman Sachs received over 315,000 applicants for its summer internship roles, with only 2,600 landing an intern spot. 🤯 That’s an acceptance rate of just 0.8%! So, it’s safe to say breaking in is tough. A lot of students focus heavily on technicals but often forget about behavioral questions. 🙅♀️ That’s a big MISTAKE! Nailing those fit questions is what really helps you stand out. ADVICE NEEDED: I'm in an in-between stage for internships. I'm graduating bachelors this spring, but I won't be accepted into a masters degree until after hiring for the 2025 season wraps up. The postings ask for graduates in their next-to-last year. If I join a one year graduate program, that's me. But I won't be in one in time to apply. I've already been turned away from Blackrock for not meeting their graduation timeline. I've reached out to HR, at Blackrock and other firms, to explain the situation. I've asked for advice from some specific people, but no one seems sure of what to do. If I enter an MFE, then (depending on the program) it's standard to take off and start doing things over the summer. But I may enter a one year math/stat masters; if I do, I want to work. If you can pass on some openings, or give any advice, please do so.

🚀 Exciting Update! 🚀 I am thrilled to share that I have recently completed the Goldman Sachs Excel Skills for Business virtual internship! Before I delve into the skills I acquired during this virtual internship, I must admit that I found this job simulation a bit challenging. Looking back at the entire experience, I would say that those challenges were the most fun part of the entire journey. Realizing it wasn't as easy as I initially thought made me understand that overcoming these challenges would lead to significant growth and learning. If I had to sum it up in one sentence, I would say: challenges and obstacles can be frustrating, but they are also moments of exponential growth. Endure and overcome, and you'll have some of the best learning experiences. So here is what I learned: 🔹 Advanced Excel Functionalities: Developed a strong command over various Excel techniques, including data cleansing, manipulation, and conditional formatting.  🔹 Automation & VBA: Gained experience in automation by learning to record macros and script in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). Successfully developed two functional macros integrated with buttons using account sales data.  🔹 Data Visualization & Storytelling: Acquired expertise in creating impactful charts and interactive dashboards using Excel and PowerPoint, enabling more effective data-driven storytelling. A big thank you to Goldman Sachs and Forage for this incredible opportunity.
