It’s game time! Are you winning or losing the restaurant game? Like my San Francisco 49ers who came back from a huge deficit against the Detroit Lions, it isn’t over til it’s over. If you are winning, great! Keep your eye on the prize. If you are losing, it’s ok. Figure out a way to win. Check out this week’s edition of my Shift Happens Column on FSR magazine to see how to turn those losses into wins. Then book a FREE call by clicking the link above to discuss working with me to create wins.

Dear friends and colleagues,
I am both humbled and delighted that I have been ranked in Band One by Chambers and Partners. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to my clients who provided the in-depth feedback that underlies this top tier ranking. This recognition spurs me on to be even better!

Had the immense pleasure of being able to connect with the incredible Christie Schatz, CPO of Sonny's BBQ, this morning and dang did I walk away with a huge smile and lots of hope in my heart for the future of the restaurant business.
As a longtime fan of Sonny's, I mean come on that's some gooood BBQ, after talking with her it makes so much sense why my experiences there have always been so positive.
Because they don't just talk the talk when it comes to the hourly experience, but truly invest in the people experience through dedicated managerial training, investments in L&D platforms, and trying to foster growth from within by doing something simple: treating their people well. And fun fact, she's been with Sonny's for 23 years - so she knows QUITE a bit about growing a career with a brand.
One of my favorite parts of my convo with Christie is when she said this: "People were banging on the doors to come back to work during COVID, and we doubled down on comms with our teams to connect and make sure people were taken care of. And something people often forget is that building community is key at the frontline level. It's so simple too."
What a wonderful way to kick off my Tuesday, and thank you for nerding out with me over the hourly experience Christie!
Can't wait for your episode of The Hourly Podcast so that I can shout you and the rest of the team out x100 🎉

In my resignation letter from the Berentzen Board, I added an extract from this text. Mr Buffet also adds the three characteristics a Board Director should have: Business Savvy, Interest in the job and owner orientation.
This last point is critical, in particular in a listed Company when even its management is not a shareholder. The consequences for the shareholders are obvious: cash in hand goes in front of company's value.

Following an accidental coffee spill by the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, he assumed personal responsibility for its cleanup instead of delegating the task to a janitor. This episode underscores the principle that with great power comes great responsibility.
Several leadership lessons can be derived from this situation:
1. Leading by Example: The Prime Minister demonstrated the importance of leading by example. By personally taking care of a task that could have been delegated, he showed his willingness to get involved in even the smallest responsibilities.
2. Accountability and Ownership: This incident highlights the significance of accountability and ownership in leadership. The Prime Minister didn't shy away from the mistake or pass the responsibility onto someone else; instead, he took ownership of the situation, reflecting his commitment to accountability.
3. Humility: The act of cleaning up the spill portrays humility on the part of the Prime Minister. Despite his high position and authority, he didn't consider himself above such tasks, exhibiting a humble attitude that can foster trust and respect among followers.
4. Respect for Others: By personally cleaning up the spill instead of delegating it to a janitor, the Prime Minister demonstrated respect for the janitor's time and efforts. This reflects an understanding of the value of every individual's contributions, irrespective of their position.
5. Quick Decision-making: The Prime Minister's swift decision to handle the situation himself also underscores the importance of making quick decisions in leadership. Rather than deliberating on the best course of action or hesitating, he took immediate action, which can be crucial in effectively managing unexpected circumstances.

Leading by example is a leadership style where you model the behavior you want to see in your team members. When you lead by example, you don’t just push team members towards excellence - rather, you actively demonstrate that excellence.
By getting involved in your team’s initiatives, you are showing them that you value their work, understand their contribution, and appreciate their time.
