Its time for a Jasmine Learns Something 💡💡💡💡💡
Today, I spent some time this morning at the online 2023 Agricultural Policy Forum hosted and supported by the Monadnock Farm & Community Coalition, the NH Food Alliance, and the UNH Carsey Institute for Public Policy, as part of their monthly Coffee & Conversations series.
I heard from the incredibly informed Food policy experts about all of the efforts on bipartisanship policies to improve our NH food systems and how to get actively involved. I heard about all the organizations that could are working towards ending hunger, bringing fresh local foods to our schools, and climate impacts/adaptability.
These conversations are incredibly important as we are staring at Climate adaptability and improving the State's food system. As a former chef (I know, I have lots of fun little things I do), I have always been passionate about access to fresh, culturally appropriate foods, even the use of "ugly" foods to prevent food waste.
Because Food can be at the crux of building community, it can be a bringer of social change. There is always an opportunity to apply learning and teaching with food.
Here were some of the things I heard:
❗️There is a reconfigured Bill called Local Food for Local Schools that will support a two year pilot program that a NH schools can participate in.
❗️The Hunger Free NH Act is comprehensive legislation that addresses root causes of hunger, increasing access to programs like SNAP, and school meals.
❗️Get Informed! If you are passionate about food, where our food comes from, working towards ending hunger, and you want to get involved, check out some of the organizations listed: Monadnock Farm and Community Coalition @NHFoodAlliance or NofaNH!
And of course I always have a FREE resource to lean on:
